I don't think a point restriction is going to work unless you also include "baskets" or 1.5 year old deer.  We often have 5-8 point deer that are only 1.5 years old.  (we killed two last year that were wounded by neighbors).

Kids under 18 can shoot any buck they want for their first buck, after that everyone has to follow wider than ears, 8 pts or better. If your gonna shoot a buck, its gonna end up on the wall.

You cant eat horns, shoot a doe or a fawn instead. Thats ours.

Our camp has no rules. Most of us chose not to shoot deer under 100# or so though.

In our party we will only shoot an 8 pt or larger buck in the effort to promote larger bucks in our area. Baskets should be as wide as the ears or wider also. Unfortunately, we have a couple of parties that hunt around us on neighboring property that shoot anything that moves it seems like.

We have found that as the parties around us are blasting away, most of the deer that they miss (which are quite a few) seek refuge on our property so it is making a difference, just not as quickly as it could if everyone worked together toward this goal.

All bucks that are shot have to go on the wall. We don't do a pt restriction but it has to be as wide as the ears. No 1 1/2 yr olds are shot. Does are open game.
Let the small bucks walk. Don't assume the neighbors will shoot them if you don't. If you shoot him what chance does that buck have to grow......ZERO!

Cody we do too !! It is the wall of shame !! they get a certificate. I will try and post it here since I made them !!!! They also get a fine that goes towards the taxes on the land. We hold a court and you get to tell your side of the story before everyone in camp and then we vote on your guilt ( it more like the level of your guilt  ;D )

I wouldn't say we have rules that are set in stone, but we do encourage each other to shoot a bigger deer that the last buck you have taken. We also encourage young hunters to shoot what they want if its a younger deer so be it. They must have a on going interest in hunting and see that is fun or they will stop doing it. I would say when they get older and understand the management side of it then try to enforce the rules. ( maybe when they hit 16,17,18 years old) We have had some of my cousin stop hunting because one of my uncles always told them the deer was to small to shoot and they had never shot a deer before. so they said screw it because it wasn't fun anymore. Now I'm trying to get them back in the game and maybe light the fire they once had for this great sport.

That is a GREAT certificate.  I would like to incorporate that in the future however at our deer shack the rules are pretty much as follows......shoot a DEER and nothing else.  No moose on accident, no wolves, no red squirrels etc.  I/we could give a hoot less how big or small it is.

I like the 100# does just fine and my buddy Dan likes big bucks only.  No rule at all for anyone.  Now we do hunt State land where we have had a shack for 50+ years and as it is pretty much State land imposing any rules would not matter anyway.  The closest shack uses the "brown its down" theory as well.

At our camp we have around 8-10 guys annually and about half of us get out in the woods before legal hours to shoot.  The ohter half wanders about aimlessly around 8:30 or so.  As you can guess we are not too serious about our hunting.  For the record I am out in stand almost Always before sunup.....still never shoot anything though.  :fudd:

That has got to be the coolest thing I have ever seen!!! I would like to set something like that up to! If it wouldn't be too much trouble could you send that to me too?

Camp Name: Fallenhorn Camp

For years we have shot basically whatever racked bucks we have seen since our area is highly rifle hunted and if you drive down the roads you see tons little bucks on the top of cars. We thought that it didn't make too much of a difference... but recently we have implemented a program to let these bucks walk. Finally we are seeing a huge difference in the buck and buck activity we see.

Some of the older guys don't think this makes any difference but us younger guys are trying to instill it.

I think it is a personal choice for people I although I like our rules they are not for every one or every situation.
We made the choice to do some QDM and it has worked.
The best part is the court we hold where the person gets to defend there shot and the choice that went into it.
Makes for a great night and alot of ribbing each other and bringing up the small deer that were shot before we put the rules in !!!

We are a "brown its down" camp.  Where we hunt (Detroit Lakes area) there is a overabundance of deer.  We don't see much for bucks on our land, just alot of does with youngens.  We keep ending up with a "fertile mertile" who are having triplets.  I shoot one of these every few years, but it never fails, another one always shows up.

we started just shooting mature bucks about 3 years ago. before we shot eveything that moved. we used to take tons of small bucks, but now that last two years we have taken a 130" 12 point and a 160" 10 point. i cant wait for this year, my bro already shot at a nice 10 with split brow tines with his bow. this strategy has worked well for us, and we try to keep the buck to doe ratio even.
my wife said it.... im OFFICIALLY ADDICTED to MNO!!
