Is anybody getting birds?

Bow hunting has been slow, so I decided to head out this morning.
Lots of hens, but I did manage to get my limit!

I saw about 30 roosters, while driving in my car, just after sunset, flying back to a WMA after spending the day on private land.  I almost hit one with my car, as a flock was flying across. 

Otherwise, I flushed a bunch of hens.

Ugh.

went out today and hit several WMA areas by glencoe. didnt flush up anything in the first 2 and the 3rd one we flushed 8 hens on limited time limit there. could only spend 20 minutes there due to had to get to work.

Where is the dog?

The last couple of years, with the land that I have had access to and the dogs that I have been running, I usually got my birds.

But this year has not been so good for me and my lab, the birds seems to be scares in the usual haunts, we work a lot and don't have the same opportunities.

But a bad day hunting is always better than a good day at work,,,and it looks like you had a good day hunting.

We went south of 19 Saturday saw 4 shot 2. We were trying to get our silly dog out on birds.
Went Sunday 2 of chased up 2. Been finding birds running deer trails on public land. Going to get going alot harder after first season deer hunting. Have seen  birds just hoping for a little snow and the corn out.

All the standing corn is definetly not helping out.  It is looking like the farmers are hitting it hard and starting to pull the corn now.  I am seeing that all the beans are gone and they are moving to the corn.

i hit the albert lea area on sunday and the farmers are definatly hitting it hard removing crops they have put a big dent into the corn fields.  We saw birds but it was very windy and COLD.  We only ended up with one bird and lost one other.  Would have had more but my hunting partner had a little gun problems  his gun wouldnt cycle due to being so cold but there is always next time.  There definatly is birds around down there.

I saw a few over the weekend.  We were doing some drives and kicked a few up on the way.  At one point, I had been standing still for over a minute and a rooster got up about qp feet away and scared the crap out of me.

well i got my limit today, was only out for half hour, lots of hens and some that were way to low to shoot at and risk hitting my dog, but these to made the fatal mistake of flying to high

Since my deer tag was filled, I decided to do a little pheasant hunting on Saturday. Like most, I enjoy a day in the field hunting, but this trip lasted about all of fifteen minutes, including the time it took Koda to find the rooster that I didn't hit too well. As soon as Koda jumped out of the Tahoe, he was running birdy, so we had a very good, even though short, but productive day.

We also hit the pheasants Saturday after deer hunting. I finally was able to shoot one of the birds my new pup pointed. He is working like a  and I am pretty excited about his potential!!!! We dropped 4 birds in about a half hour -45 minute walk. I will post some pictures when I get them developed. We only have one digital camera in the house and the better half gets dibs on it.
So when I go hunting away from home I take my old camera with. Takes better pictures but you never know what you end up with!

Went out Thursday with my dad and brother.  Windy and very cold but we got our limit of 6 birds and saw a TON of birds that were flushing out of range.  We're seeing more birds this year than we have seen the last few years combined.  Hope to get out at least a few more times and get some more!

Headed out next weekend myself. Thanksgiving weekend in MN is kind of the traditional pheasant weekend in my family. A lot of good ground is opened up for us after deer season.

Headed out today me and glock_22 we ended up with 2 roosters.  If we could of been better with our aiming we would ahve limited out.  Saw a OK amount of birds around 20 with probably 12 of those being hens.  Did happen to flush up 2 coveys of hungarian partriage we took a few shoots at them but no luck.  There definatly were alot of hunters out today.

Great day Friday after turkey day! Very bad day yesterday . Jake, my GSP pup cut up his front leg pretty good late yesterday when we went out. Several stitches this morning. Doc said he should be sitting good in week if he can manage to leave the stitches alone and the meds work fine for infections. He is out of the hunting scene for at least 2 weeks. Just when it was starting to click! Thank goodness for the extended season now. A few years back our year would have been over!

Sorry to hear about your dog.  I know it happens but darn it, why right in the middle of hunting season.  My friend caries one of those vet stitch kits to use in SD.  Dogs don't seem to mind too much.

   Thanks DE. Those are great in a pinch. I have stitched a few minor ones in the past. It was not the stitching that bothered me, in my business you learn to stitch quite well.  ;)It was in a bad location and I wanted to be sure nothing else was damaged. Especially with the potential this pup has got. The stitch kits are something every one should have and learn to use in an emergency situation. Another thing I carry with me is a powder for stopping the bleeding. It is commonly used for stopping the the blood flow when dehorning calves. But in a pinch can be a life saver for your hound.

Was out in the SW on Sunday. 6 of us bagged 9 roosters. A lot of hens around but there are still some roosters to be thinned out before the end of the season.

I get mine from my vet. They may also be available in some of the pet first aid kits that are available.

I went out this afternoon to get some birds.

I did flush up 5 hens and 2 roosters, but missed. Maybe cause I was freezing my  off.

Haven't had a chance to get out since the snow fell. Been busy with the holidays comming up. My buddy and I should get out in the next week or so. I'll make sure I report back.

We managed a couple Saturday afternoon. My hound is back, not quite full speed yet but at least he can go. The birds are starting to run more and flush at longer distances with less holding for points. You may need to have a couple posters when walking now.
