Hunter,

Thats "non-sense"  Just cowboy up and head out,don't let your weekeend warrior buddys hold ya back.Load your truck up with gear and lots of ammo and head west young man,check it out in a couple weeks around the Aberdeen area,also I'll post reports when we get back.I have guide contacts if you want the full experience hunting over dekes with ecallers and a scouted area,you can make it a 1,2 or 3 day hunt.email me for more info if your interested.

Tuna,

Go to the 2nd page on this thread,we laid out some good info for ya.1st timers may find the experience more exciting with a guide,they'll put you on birds and have all the equipment,all you need to do in the spring is pull plug outof your gun,load your ammo and head out.

Check out "huntthenorth.com" South Dakota trips are just around the corner,I'm thinking by the 20th,then into NoDak in april.

Tuna,I favor "eyes on the ground" these days,to many folks surf the net to get a handle on whats goin on,with that said and you don't know anyone in the western states,start here;

http://www.nohrsc.noaa.gov/nsa/index.html

This will show you the "snow line" the spring migration follows this line as it melts,meaning stay below the line for the best results.

This ia a good start for SoDak;
http://www.sdgfp.info/Wildlife/Hunting/waterfowl/Springmigration.htm

And for NoDak;
http://gf.nd.gov/multimedia/news/spring-light-goose-update.html

That should get ya started. :happy1:

Folks,as cool as this looks, just remember this is the reason we have the "snow goose conservation order" (spring hunt) with over 5 million continental in the flock,they are distroying the fragil echo system in the artic (nesting area) affecting many other species in the artic circle.

So,"come get ya some"... :fudd:

also,if your pics are down loaded to the puter,make a file then to post click "reply" and scroll down below the reply box and click "+additional options", click browse (1st line) and paste then click 2nd line and enter picture and submit,hopefully she'll work for ya. I'm just learning myself :scratch:

Sweeeet :happy1: Looks like a major roost,how far from the roost were ya?

This weekend in Sodak should be prime ;) followed by another large weather event early next week,if it does'nt snow to much the birds will be pushing into NoDak.

Arived at Freeman on Thursday night. Hunted with guides for $500.00 a piece for a 3 day hunt. Friday we had about 3 or 4 small groups come in and we shot 11. Saturday we had mabe 2 groups come in and we shot 7. Sunday we had 1 goose come in and I shot that one. Very disapointed in the shooting for the money.

Hunter2_ Was there a lack of geese in the area or were they just not cooperating?

H2

Thats how it goes sometimes,couple things to consider,1st off look at the money you saved on dekes and other equipement not to mention scouting,gaining land access and such,2nd always ask the outfitter how long they have been shooting the field,I would'nt hunt a field thats been pounded for more than a week unless it was during the peak or tail end of the migration when the juvies are showing up ans also ask "where the roost is?" why hunt hunt an area thats not holding birds,you want a roost nearby or at least within 20 miles of ya,nice warm weather with a south wind will push the birds north,front coming in like today and I'll bet there was a "reverse migration" meaning you want to stay in front of their movement,if your guide is stuck to just one or two fields,move on but there is no way to give anyone that perfect hunt,thats why they discount the 3 day package,this way most often you'll get that one day of dropping good #'s.

Just a few thoughts.

Tim

PS~ Effective today thru tomorrow,winter storm watch from aberdeen west about 50 miles,then a "blizzard warning" is taking place.This will hold them SOB back  ;)

if yo guys would have jsut invested that guide money into a spread of silosocks you would have over 400 by now if you had 4 guys with you (if you buy them new). guides are a rip because for the money you can have just as good of a spread after 2 or 3 years and you can do what you want.
