I'm really sorry to hear this GG & GGM.
I've been putting in a good word for him, I guess the good Lord needed him home.

GG & GGM, thoughts and prayers are with you and your families.  I know how hard the coming days will be but the great memories will live on forever.  With every gorgeous sunrise I see, I smile and think of the good times my dad and I had while out duck hunting.  Take care././Jim

Thank you all so much for your support, prayers and kind words.  It's been a hard week for me, a hard year actually...   I know my dad is in a better place though, but it's hard to face the reality that he is actually gone.  I already miss him so much,...bottom line ~it sucks bad.

But hopefully, in time this will get easier.

I really do appreciate all of your thoughtfulness though, you guy's are the BEST!

Thank you!

~gg

...oh and just to let you all know, my eulogy was "only" 14 pages long, single spaced, typed, and I STILL don't feel like I gave him the justice he deserved!  He was a pretty big deal to me, and to a lot of people actually, there was over 500 people at his funeral, and the Bloomington Fire Dept. did a phenominal job honoring their fallen brother. It was an amazing tribute to him.

I hope that your pain heels and it gets easier with time. God Bless

Sounds like you are doing OK, it's very tough on you. I'm sure you did your Dad proud with your eulogy. Hang in there and just remember all the times you shared together.

I know exactly where you are coming from.  My dad was a past Assistant Chief and we took the funeral procession past the fire house.  They had all the trucks outside with lights going and they all stood a line saluting as we passed.  He was also a past Commander of the Legion Post in St Peter.  When he was the Commander there he made the Avenue of the Flags happen.  On every holiday they put 50 5X8 flags up along Minnesota Square in St Peter.  It is an awesome sight and on the day of his funeral they put them up with one in the middle at half staff and we went by that as well.  It is now and probably always will be the only day that they were put up that was not a holiday.  It's right on Hwy 169 if you ever get a chance, check them out.

I am now the Commander of that Legion and this summer we are doing fund raisers to replace all of those flags as they are getting kind of tattered.  I am proud to do it I get a lump in my throat each time I think about it.  The great memories will live on!  Take care././Jim
