I'll try to get pics. posted if I can.   He's pretty excited!
22.5 pounds; they didn't measure the beard but said it was probably abt. 8 1/2" beard

Anyone else having any luck?

not my time yet.... but i heard from my uncle that there is a big tom hanging around there... so hopefully he's still there a few weeks from now.
If a gun kills people then I can blame a pen for my misspells?

I took my 13 year old daughter out of school today to go turkey hunting. at 9:30 we were headed to the registration station. The beard measured at 9 1/8" one spur was 1 inch and the other was 15/16, the bird weighed 24.4lbs. Do you think it was ok to pull her out of school to go hunting? This was her first.

My cousin Todd shot his first ever turkey this morning. It was his first time out hunting turkey. He called me right after he shot and I've never heard him so excited he could barely talk. He is the first ever in our family history to bag a turkey on our ancestors land because there never use to be any up around that area. Congrats Todd we're all proud of your 18lb 9 1/2 inch bearded Turkey!
Let the small bucks walk. Don't assume the neighbors will shoot them if you don't. If you shoot him what chance does that buck have to grow......ZERO!

First of all congratulations! it is awesome isn't it? I know the feeling well. I wish I knew what I had been missing for the years I scoffed at turkey hunting. That thundering gobble cutting off your calls can pound your heart. I get way more enjoyment from a hunt sitting back against a tree than in a blind. Laying still almost face to face with one of the wariest game animals can be very emotional.

As a teacher at a Northwest Metro high school, it's a great idea to pull kids out to hunt.  Just as long as they aren't struggling academically.  Heck, I have "eye" problems some days, especially in the fall, and I can't see myself coming into work... the only cure is a optic sight @ the end of my gun....

Congrats!

Good going! :happy1:  Where did you guys hunt?

On the back 40..........

I'm still hunting...got till Thursday.
I had a tom working the field, but wouldn't commit!
They haven't been gobbling for the last 2 days cause of the wind (I believe) So, they come in ever so quiet, skirting the field edge.

That is the tough part about hunting MN for turkeys. 5 days period. Rain, snow, sun, wind, you have to hunt because that is all you get. Congrats to your daughter :happy1:

Thanks Auggs, I'll tell her!
Yea, yesterday it was dry and REAL windy! 30mph! Had dust tornados all over the field...
This morning, windy again with sleety rain... no, gobbles...and a few hens...that was it.
And yep, your right....gotta hunt!

Congrats to Hunterdown's daughter.   I'll bet yesterday was a windy one out there.  I plan on going Friday.  I don't have a gun permit so I'm going with the bow.  Should be interesting.

Yeah... the wind is a downer for turkey hunting,  It really tends to shut down the gobbling, and if they do, much harder to hear, plus it makes em nervous I think when they cant hear things as well, so they dont make their normal rounds, they kind of stay put... I think Id rather have rain or snow than wind when turkey hunting....  Yep, big  :happy1:  to your daughter on her first bird....

Pulled the stakes right out of the ground on the blind!
