I have been hesitant to go out to the woods becuase of the rain.  I have never hunted much at all in the rain. Perhaps some of you all would have an opinion whether the deer movement shuts down during rain.  What are your past experineces?

From my experience, I would say rain/snow has little effect on deer movement.  Remember, deer live outside all the time and need to eat.  I doubt they "look out" in the morning and say "it's too ugly out today, I think I'll just stay put".   I have hunted in the rain in the past but now I will pass if the weather is like it was yesterday and today.  I was planning on going bow hunting with my son yesterday and today but called it off due to raing and wind.

Some people won't go in the rain due to lack of blood to track when you shoot an animal, or just the inclement weather and it's affect on us or our equipment.

I won't sit through a downpour personally, but will sit through drizzles. I have seen plenty of deer activity when it is raining out. Just depends what you want to sit through.

I got roofs on some of my stands, so, yep, I've sat out in the rain. (light rain or drizzle)
I see just as many deer, if not more.
Sometimes it can even help....small noises that you might make while hunting (twanking your bow on a branch...ect) are now covered up by the sound of rain.
You'll prolly never hear them coming...so keep your eyes peeled for movement.

Really windy days and down pours, are a different story (at least for me) seems like if they can't hear real good with all the other noises going on around them...they tend to stay put till they are either kicked up, or wait till dark to move.

Just my 2 cents.....

thanks for the input guys.  I just came in from the woods a little bit ago and saw quite a bit movement down in the neighbors cornfield.  Deer comming in an out all afternoon, but saw nothing where I was hunting.  It got really windy and I believe that had something to do with it.
Thanks again.

If I could pick any weather to hunt it would be in rain on a cold day. That is why I was out all weekend. My brother got a doe Saturday night and I had a 9 pt directly under my stand but didn't have any camera light so had to pass on it. Rain makes them move on a cold day. The deer get cold just like us and the always seem to be in the fields when it's raining. All your sent gets washed away from the walk in and it's quiet walking in. Love the rain.
Let the small bucks walk. Don't assume the neighbors will shoot them if you don't. If you shoot him what chance does that buck have to grow......ZERO!

I also hunted this weekend in the rain.  Had lots of activity Saturday, but Sunday morning it was rainy and windy, and we didn't see anything....guessing the wind had more to do with it.  Only bad part about hunting in the rain(besides everything getting wet) is that it can be tough to hear.

I'm bear hunting now with a bow and I can not believe the deer I see!
No bear but deer almost every night.

The only bad thing is the land I’m bear hunting the owner will not let me take a deer unless it's over 135 class.
And by law you can not shoot a deer over bear bait.

I also have seen allot of deer the last few weeks with this rain, and also with the wind but I’m deep in the woods so the wind does not effect them much.

From what I have seen and what i've been told is that Turkeys come out of the woods when raining because they can't hear very well when its raining? Just what I have been told. maybe rain puts deer in a "In the woods" pattern?

I went out deep I went out to the catails and bull rushes and all that cover were no person would go in there right mind should go. the closer I got tot the canopy (leaves brush and vines) the more sing I seen once I got into it NO more than a 20 foot visilbility found the trails nice ones to.
