well this is the question.

ok so i was pretty mad that they eliminated the all season license because it gave me freedom to go were ever i wanted to in the state. now with the regular firearms season is there a way that i can hunt the metro and area 242 i think it is with the gun?

As long as you have a gun season license you can hunt anywhere you want with it.
Let the small bucks walk. Don't assume the neighbors will shoot them if you don't. If you shoot him what chance does that buck have to grow......ZERO!

there were only two real problems with the all season license in my opinion.
one, for some who didn't want to hunt one of the seasons, like bow or muzzle loader, but still wanted the freedom that the all season license offered, they were still required to, in essance pay for all three licenses, like it or not, secondly, it was to easy to understand.

you know, if they'd just come up with one system and leave it the #ell alone, they would eliminate all the questions and confusion that arise every year.
they've changed more times in the last ten years than they ever have since they started issuing licensing...<---guess, but I bet I'm close.

I think we have more freedom with the way things are now, but i won't know the real answer to that until I graduate from this years regulations update class. should have it figured out about mid december......GRRRR :reporter;

Yeah the all season tags were great! But it was not politically correct to offer the freedom to that licensee to be able to hunt everywhere and not offer the same opportunity to the single hunter that is only in the field for one weekend of the year using a shotgun,smokepole, or bow. Personally I thought it was great that they offered a special priviledge to those that support with multi license purchases and are in the field the whole season.

A firarm license is valid anywhere in the state that is open except the late southeast. You just have to suggest an area you hunt mostly when you purchase. It cant get much simpler than the way it is. You just have to be aware wether you hunt a lottery,management, or intensive harvest area before you shoot does. You can hunt any of those with your regular license just have to follow the rules of the one your in at  the time.

the early doe season i want to say is what did it. i dont know how they can go from a intensive to a lottery either but im sure they will regret it in a year or 2. because i saw a ton of deer when i was up for duck opener. more than i have ever seen before. they were even bedding down in the ditches.....

From what I heard, there will be alot of intensive harvest areas going to lottery areas or management areas next year. I got a few friends in the DNR, so, I'm just going by what they tell me.

I guess, we'll see next year for sure........

That is correct the way I understand it. Your firearm license is valid anywhere for bucks.

Where can I take this class?  I was just in a "Youth antlerless only" area looking for pheasant and saw 6 does (5 at a time, then 1 later), more does in one day then I have cumulatively seen before in that area.  (The does seem to have figured out which zones are safest this season).

I started reading the regulations, and it looks like an adult can take a buck there, too.  So it should be named "Buck, but only youth can take antlerless".  Is that correct?  If there were a class, I'd probably be able to figure this stuff out.

Is my understanding correct for this year.  I can take a buck in a lottery or youth antlerless area?  And then go use a bonus tag in a managed area, and then 3 more bonus tags in an intensive area?

Youth are allowed to take antlerless deer as an incentive to propagate hunting. And as you experienced when you are pheasant hunting you see alot of deer and when you are deer hunting you see alot of pheasants. At least that is the way it always seems to go with me.

The way it was explained to me, YES you are correct in your thinking for statewide firearms license;

One deer from a lottery area (buck only unless you were drawn for antlerless lottery),

plus an additional deer in management area with a bonus tag,

plus 3 additional deer in intensive area with bonus tags.

One buck limit per year per hunter still applies.
