I tend to be skeptical of information that I get on the internet and through e-mails. A second friend confirmed it's validity - so it might be authentic. Story that came with the e-mail is below.

This Wolf was shot recently in Drayton Valley , Alberta ..which is near Edmonton about 3 hours North of Calgary. The wolf weighs over 230lbs smashing the previous record of 175lbs. Wouldn't want to run into this puppy in the woods.

Apparently a bear hunter witnessed this wolf chase off a big black bear at this baiting station.

I've seen this pic before, but cannot confirm the validity of the story.

Huge bugger that's for sure.

What if the guy that is holding it, is only 4'6" tall? That would make the wolf about average in lenght.....  ;D

Why do you say that?  This would beat the largest recorded Wolf by a whopping 55 pounds, and that's the record!  That's a HUGE leap to make....

Here's the guy's website, or atleast his business.  Apparently his buddy shot a world record Wolf too, and to be quite honest his buddy's wolf looks more like the one he's holding in the picture above than the wolf he's holding in the picture on his website.  It all looks kind of fishy to me, sort of like a boy flying away in some homemade alien saucer balloon...

I just found this on Wikipedia confirming the 175lb. record.

Mackenzie Valley Wolves typically stand about 32-36 inches (81-91 cm) at the shoulder and males weigh between 100 and 145 pounds (45 - 65 kg)[3]. The weight record is held by a wild specimen caught in Alaska in 1939 which weighed 175 pounds.[4]

The Mackenzie Valley Wolf has a specialized body that has made it one of the world's most efficient hunters. Its thick, long limbs are proportionally built for traversing through rough terrain such as deep snow or the cliffy edges of the Rocky Mountains. Its deep chest hosts large lungs, letting the wolf breathe more efficiently at higher altitudes, and allowing it to exert huge amounts of stamina traveling up to 115km (~70 miles) in one day. Its powerful neck is a very important adaptation: it has to be strong to support the wolf's large head and is crucial for bringing down prey. The Mackenzie Valley Wolf maximizes heat retention through such methods as using its bushy tail to cover its exposed nose during the winter. It sheds its undercoat during the summer months due to the hotter conditions.

The skull is 31cm (12 inches) long and is armed with an impressive array of large canines and carnassial teeth which, when coupled with huge jaw muscles that are evident from the large sagittal crest and wide zygomatic arches, give it an incredible biteforce that is strong enough to break the bones of prey and even crack the femur of moose.

I got the same picture awhile back and it said it was shot on in island in Minnesota near the Canada boarder.  I asked the person that sent it, since when does Minnesota have a wolf season?

Same picture floating around, but maybe different stories.

As far as Wikipedia, I thought that anyone, could post anything, about something they think they know something about.

Snooping around on the internet I found another piece of info regarding this wolf. And another picture. The 197 lbs. seems a bit more believable too.

Thanx for the heads up....caught it an hour later when Cody Robbins turned into the Hunting Chronicles
Pretty quick sequence......was it really weighed in at 197lbs!!!
That is huge.....kinda too bad it didn't hit the bait for a couple of minutes....woulda been 200 for sure
What a melon on it.....maybe one day I'll find one like that!!!!

They have people that edit all additions.  You'd be surprised how fast BS can get edited out.  I was reading something about Hannibal at one point and someone put something in there about him conquering Spain for ice cream.  I posted it on another forum to show people and when i checked back around 15 minutes later it was removed.

Another good point i read about is the fact that this guy is holding that wolf.  Anything that big would have a picture taken on the ground.  Holding a floppy 230 pound animal in your arms like that for a picture cannot be easy at all.  Is that how this guy poses with his deer too?  Not to mention, went to this guys site and he seems to only have two pictures of this Wolf.  If you shot a record shattering wolf and caught it on a bait you are marketing and selling; wouldn't you take/post more than just two freaking pictures, one of them being crappy(if it is real)?

I really think you guys are missing the point  :offtopic:. The REAL success story here is that a wolf was shot, is dead and can no longer kill 18 deer "on average" a yr and breed and produce offspring that will "on average" kill 18 deer a yr each. I commend this fine gentlemen for taking this animal and hope and pray he lives in MN and ownes a hunting preserve called the 3 S's that allows his discrete clientel to hunt anywhere and everywhere they please to pursue this "Mamma's boy" of the animal kingdom called the Timberwolf. In the fantasy that I'm playing in my head this wolf was pregnant and also had other pregnant wolves relying on it to bring them food that will now perish.
I've been looking at Canadian wolf hunts for some time now and I :fudd: will make the trip and bag a few of these PETA puppies.

Oh dear.....I believe I was driving behind you the other day MNO. You drive a vegetable diesel driven VW with loads of global warming, peta, I'll wear my own fur and tofu the real meat bumper stickers on it. When I pulled up next to you I could hear you yelling (even over the Sara Mclaughlin cd you had playing) "I love you mother earth. We are one and we can beat mankind"
I'm no dr but I strongly advise seeking help.

P.S. I have that Enya cd you borrowed me. I'll bring it with when we hit up the Lilith Fair.

I actually went to the Lilith Fair many years ago. I took a girlfriend and it was actually a good time. When it got dark we all howled at the moon and chanted save the wolves... And then Sara M came on the stage with a wolf suit on and sang a song about them. It was great.

I really did go to the lilith fair

When I was a kid my dad bought a bumper sticker from a resort by Waskish that said "Eat a wolf, save our deer".  He put that on his truck and had it for years!
