This is what you feel defines the term "slob hunter" in your own opinion.

This isn't meant to get people's undies in a bunch, or start fights on opinions. This is just to see what people think the term "slob hunter" means, because in all honesty I think people's opinions will differ greatly on this subject.

My opinion is that anyone who shoots more deer than they have tags for (in their party) is a slob. Or the person who shoots a nice 140'' 'er, and goes and has his wife (who never hunts) buy a tag to chase after another buck is also a slob (actually a horn slob). Other slobs would include people who shoot deer, then ditch them after cutting the heads off without processing the meat (we'll call them wanton waste slobs).

Then there are randomn slob website posters, but we won't get into that.....

Those are my slob hunters, what are yours?

I find it offensive you would include the word "hunter" with any of those people.  I believe I would call them criminals.  I could be wrong but aren't all of those acts illegal?

No, you aren't wrong and those are all illegal in my book, and the state's book.

Don't mean to offend, but these actions do happen, and I guess that is kind of where I am going with this thread is to see what constitutes a "slob" in everyone's opinion.

slob hunters are those that have no regard for others. They leave trash behind, gates open, And do not signal their turns on their way to deer camp.

slobs in my mind are those who treaspass! I can't stand the thought of having someone stealing my 2 new stands and my 250 dollar cam from my private woods but it could happen!

I have not experienced "party hunting" but i'm kinda on the fence , well kinda leaning on the its ok side. There is alot of people who spend lots of money to go hunting and if they dont get anything it could discourage them and they could quit hunting. i.e. less new people being introduced to the sport.
But if there is someone who hunts ,then shoots a deer with whatever weapon but has someone run out and buy a liscense after the deer is down ,that's what I feel is completely wrong.

I would like to include those people that lose deer off their vehicle on 35 every year.  Usually I see 3 or 4 deer each trip on the side of the road that were lost off vehicles.  I don't know exactly how this happens, but learn to secure your deer a little better.

I would describe a "slob" hunter as one who has little or no respect for the game they are persuing.  Also, this usually carries over to no respect for fellow hunters.  These people may not violate any laws, but their actions cast a cloud over the overall hunting experience for the rest of us.

I think you guys are right!!  Trespassers, littering, shooting an animal just for sport (except for rodents) not taking care of your animal after you shoot it (leaving it hang in a tree for a week with the hide on it ect) and rude behavior!!

And just for good measure maybe a person who stinks.........I always think of a slob then ;)

The sign, mailbox, farm animal and insulator shooters belong in the same crowd, along with the trespassers, wanton wasters and those with poor hygiene IMO. Oh and almost forgot, those who don't change the toilet paper roll! :banghead:

was up near Bemidji and heard a report while around that there where two big deer carcasses in the ditch with the straps cut out and the racks cut off.  Not sure where the line is between slobs and crooks, but that would be both.

Anyone who: baits deer, whether it's legal or not; shoots when it's too dark to see; unloads their gun on a running deer; takes "sound shots"; cuts down live trees on public property to build a stand or clear shooting lanes; drinks alcohol in their stand; spray-paints blaze orange all over trees to find their way to their stand; hunts from a vehicle; runs an ATV cross country through the woods and off trails; posts "no trespassing" signs on public property; and yes, wounds a deer and fails to track it, regardless of whether your party does or whether you're governor (that's for the cheap shot you couldn't resist throwing in there, 22lex).

Kissing......, hardly. (BTW that chimp Charlton H. is about to smooch is repulsive)

We are all in the same boat as outdoors enthusiasts whom would rather protect then degrade the passions we all have come to know and cherish through generations of preservation, conservation, and law abiding manner.

That I believe we can all agree on.

I'd be curious to know how many others are offended at the temporary loss of hunting privileges for poachers. That a-hole who shot the record buck down near Cannon Falls after shooting two other unregistered deer may lose his hunting privileges for a whole three years. Big whoop! How about losing their hunting privileges for LIFE for these scumbags? That will hurt these losers a lot more than taking away their guns, trucks and money.

My biggest pet peeve is the "hunter" that goes out every year "saying" they practice QDM, shoots a large buck, then gets the shoulder mount and gives the rest of the deer away, cause they don't like the taste of venison............

Just to hunt for the sake of a rack? WTF?

hunterdown... agreed.

the rule should be, you shoot it, you eat it.

and yes... they should lose their hunting privileges for life... but somehow I don't think that will stop them.

Thanks John!

I was raised with that belief, that if you shoot it, you eat it.
When I started hunting, I was asked....Do you intend on eating it? If not, then you have no right to shoot that animal....period!

A hunter who litters.

There are plenty of things I don't like about some other hunters, but there are plenty of things many non-hunters and/or vegetarians don't like about me.  So other than hunters breaking the law, I should just shut up and not complain too much.

As for what those laws should be, I think party hunting should be reconsidered.  Gut piles should be buried, especially with gut shots using lead.  Whenever possible, hunters should pick up and cart out spent shotgun cases instead of leaving them in the field.  Hunting from homes/cabins should be as illegal as hunting from cars.

I have to say a "Selfish Hunter" covers it for me. By selfish I mean that they are so concerned with their own success they will do anything for it. Tresspass, bait (where illegal), shoot from a vehicle, poach or even sabotage anothers stand site. Many more things could be catagorized under the name "selfish hunter" because that idividual is only thinking of themselves. They don't care if most or all of the animal is wasted as long as they have their trophy. They don't care how they leave the land that they are on. They are only thinking of themselves. We have a group around here that sure seem to be selfish. I kicked them off our property the 2nd season after my parents bought it. We posted the property the 1st season and that didn't slow them down one bit. The second season I tore the steps out of one of there stands the day before opener and then showed up and sent him packing. His response was "I have been hunting here for 20 years". I told him yeah and you never had permission and by the way I saw your footprints where you stopped to read the no tresspassing sign before coming onto our land. When I was heading back I sent another from the same party packing because he was in a stand I had just built that year. That was 15yrs ago and the same party still has people tresspassing on the land next to ours. They drive four wheelers across it and hunt on it and when I inform them its private they basically say they will take their chances.

I think Hunter and Ken covered it pretty well... especially Kens part about not signaling into deer camp. :rotflmao:  But Chip wrapped it up well with a slob hunter being a selfish hunter... that really does say it all.  Its a "hunter" being so consumed by needing the kill that he/she is oblivious to all other people,(other hunters, non-hunters and land owners) and has no respect for the animal being hunted, and yeah, the land they "hunt" on..... Yeah that Cannon Falls story sucks... Ya hear one like that most every year... they guy should be permanently banned from hunting and fishing in MN for life...(and probably in Jail...) let another state take him if they want, from what I understand, he is that "bragging guy" we all have met before... think how many others pull that :censored: and get away with it... the only reason this guy got caught was he bragged to the wrong person(right person?) & it pissed them off enough to call TIP... kudos to that person!  Greed is a wonderfull thing isnt it?  :bs:

Selfish is a great way to put it.  People who "hunt" that way give all of us a bad name and cast us in a bad light.

And losing hunting/fishing privies for 3 years is a slap on the wrist.  Like that really is going to stop these "Hunters" from taking game again......
Take a kid hunting and fishing... It'll be the best thing for generations to come.
