Just wondering if anybody fishes the rivers for the spring trout runs?

I've been working extra jobs as of late, so my time is limited. But, I will be heading for my favorite trout spot this Saturday.

Does anybody else go?
What are your favorite go to baits?
Do you fly fish?
Or use a spinning rig?

I might go out this weekend but im not sure yet.  I dont fly fish, but im not sure what I am going to use - I normally use worms or bugs in the summer but I would assume the trout would be eating minnows around now.  Im planning on small spinners/spoons or throwing minnows out there.  Ive never fished trout this early so im not exactly sure what to expect.
Any tips HD?

Alot of the steams down here have differnt regulations so if i move alot I will have to switch up rigs!

I usually bring 2 rods... I'll drift a spawn sack with a fly rod, or a small jig with a grub on it with a spinning rig.

Later in the year, I just flip flies that represent what ever bugs I find in the river.

I was fish'in a small river today with a couple buddies.
The trout were a little on the slow side, be we did catch a few.
I had 1 looper on that got off just before landing it and one steelhead that was unclipped that needed to be released. (cause it was a natural born fish)
One of my friends caught a looper that he kept.

Here are some pics of the day... (sorry they are so poor, cause I borrowed my daughter camera)

Went out today with a buddy down in Southern MN.  We were out from Noon to 1:30 until it started to rain, then we took a break and got some lunch.  We got back to the creek around 3 and fished until about 7.  Total we caught about 30-35 browns between the two of us.  We had alot of bites and misses as well.  They werent too big, the biggest was 15" - All in all it was a pretty good day.  Alot of 10-12"ers.

Here is a picture of one of the browns we caught out in the streams!  I hope to go a few more times in the next couple of weeks and try some new spots!

Where bouts? My buddy and his old man just went down and said they caught a lot of eaters, and a couple trophies. Pictures and memories. Water levels aren't to low like last year I was also told. Going down for opener, hope water levels are much higher then last opener, along with burning ban, hope thats gone this year.

We were down by Chatfield.  We didnt catch the big ones that we thought we would but the trout are abundant.  Another buddy went late last week and caught a few around 20" but it was a bit upstream from where we were.  We may try a different spot this weekend and try to get a trophy.  And also try to get a Rainbow and Brook - we caught all browns the last time.

The many miles of the Root that I fish, I only have caught one Rainbow. There are some "secret" Brookie streams i know if that are a pain to get to. Browns are fun, I release almost all that I catch. It's just an awesome way to fish, I think.

We tryed a few new spots this weekend.  On Friday, my buddy and I went to Lanesboro near the DNR hatchery, we saw alot of fish, mostly all Brooks and Rainbows, but we only caught 1 fish and it was a brown.  The trout down there are a little smarter, Im sure they have been heavily fished.  It was still great to see all the fish in the streams.  We were using all artificial lures so they were a little more skiddish
Today we went down to Elba and fished a stream down there.  We caught about 10 fish, most of them were about 10-12", all browns.  We had alot of other hits too.
We will probably try some other places next weekend.
