Itg wuyld be interesting to know what happened to that deer. Not every day do you find a nice deer like that decaying in the woods.

He next to a clump of brush about 40 yards off a busy road, so my guess is he was hit and laid up in the brush to die.  Not a single chew on the horns, and awesome pedicles.  In most areas the pedicles stick out 1/2 inch beyond the antler.

This is the 3rd largest dead buck I've found over the last few years.  I may have posted these before, but will share again.  The others were 152" and 165" bucks.  The 165" was a lost bow kill, as I found the arrow encased in the dried up liver still.

The other was my creek buck, which was buried in the bottom of a shallow creek with just a couple tines sticking out...that was my coolest find ever.  He was stained and green mossed and chewed up, but just the circumstances of the find was very cool, along with the size.

No end to the combinations that can cause death. This guy died after shedding his rack, nice heavy skull, mature buck.  The toe was hard stuck between wires and he died right there.

I found a few more dead today, some fresh, some old.
This 1st one someone cut off the antlers above the burr and left the big heavy skull that was in perfect condition.... Would have made a nice European mount or atleast save the burrs when you cut them off!

This little guy reminded me of a devil's horns.  I have seen him a time or two in years past, but for some reason decided to bring him home today!

I also found my 8th and 9th antlers today as well.  :rocker; Some squirrel damage to the bigger one, must have been out a little while I'd guess...

Had a great day in the woods! Wish I would of taken more pictures.

Coyote feast! This deer was eaten by coyotes, not sure if they killed him. He was a small buck that had already shed so it happened recently.

Antler #1 of the year!

I think I know who did this... Next years buck!

I took a walk this afternoon and came up with my 10th of the season, and my biggest so far.  I rough guessed it at around 70 inches.  Nice to get a big one now and then!  :dancinred:

Made it out this morning before the snow came and found nothing. I went to a public park and the place was over-ran with shed hunters. Talked to a few and it sounds like a lot have already been picked up. I did talk to someone who inadvertently gave up a secret spot. I don't think they realized that they did that...  :happy1: Will have to wait for a few weeks so we can get some warmth and melt some of this snow.

Here is a couple pics.

No Antlers but I ran into this guy!! I want these antlers.

And a few does... saw a lot of deer today!

The boy and I went out looking for sheds today for the first time ever. Came up empty handed but still had fun.  We'll try again locally after it warms up and see what the snow is hiding.

I got a couple spots marked as I have been driving. Saw about 30 deer pile out of the woods onto a frozen pond the other night, gonna meander up their trail and see what I can find Saturday.

As for seeing deer with gear yet... Saw A nice de-thawed 10 pointer this morning on my way home from work. DNR or Sheriff was picking it up. Shame when a nice deer gets hit.

Other then that, I still only have found 1.5 sheds this year.

Fresh off one of the best shed hunts that I have ever had!!! My daughter picked up an antler yesterday and the amount of excitement she had was priceless! I have never seen her so excited. Funny thing was that she did not want to go! I had to almost drag her out there but she agreed. 5 minutes into it and she was having a blast, exploring through the woods pretending it was the enchanted forest with an evil princess living within it. Our mission was to look for deer sign and she was getting into that too. Freaking out when she found poop. Dad!! I found more poop, we are on the right trail! I could go on and on, she had so much fun. I wasn't worried about Rachel becasue she wanted to go and she was enjoying it the whole time. Just a great day with the family in the woods!!!
