If it's a west metro area lake say towards the Buffalo area or something I could probably make it.

General or Fauk, do you guys have any suggestions for a west metro lake.  Minnetonka would be an option.  Any others?

DDS, I have no idea.  I just suggested a west metro lake so those of us who live west of the cities a long way might be able to make it.  I don't fish any lakes around there.

General lives way west.  Minnewaska works for me if you guys are up for it.  White Bear is right out my door so I can go there anytime if anyone wants to try it.

I think Buffalo or some of the lakes around Buffalo would be good choices. And even as far as Annandale would be fine with me. Lots of lakes around Annandale but have not fished any of them in the winter. Sarah is another one that has a pretty good panfish bite but again I have not fished it in the winter.

Clearwater looked like a cool lake.  I just went to the lake finder(before I read this post) and zoomed into western mn.  Picked Clearwater and check out the surveys and map.  Lot's of opportunity there.

I've fished Clearwater twice (soft water) and did fairly well. Caught a lot of panfish of varying sizes but nothing too impressive. Deeper holes and lots of structure. Actually caught some big rock bass there which I was not expecting. About 50 min from my place....I'd be in! :happy1:

I think January 29 or February 12 could work for me - then we are into Eelpout and all of us will be in Walker.

I have not fished there but I researched it a little.  Access only on the west side.  Two DNR accesses and  a bait shop(in between the DNR accesses)that plows roads and they charge a 4$ fee to use their access.  There are a lot of unsafe areas to drive because of current and places the ice is unsafe due to wind shifting and narrow areas.  If we go there I think I would like to spend the 4 $ and go out of the bait shop's access.  I could make Feb. but not the 29th of Jan.  Sunset bite can bring eyes.  Mid day can be slow.   I don't think there are any sheep head in there so the General maybe out of luck.  :rotflmao:

If its on the right weekend i could make it out as I Practically live in the city of Clearwater. As FireRanger said there is alot of structure to the lake but there are places even in the midst of a hard freeze that will will have extremely bad ice.  Also if you guys are up to it, I have 40 acres of family land on a lake Near clearwater called Nixon lake, it holds nice northern, Bass, and alot of small crappie and Bluegill but in the past we have caught some real nice crappie and alot of them. If you guys would want to try a small lake like that along with clearwater I would be more than happy to open up the gates for you guys to give it a shot. Its about 5 miles from clearwater lake. What about the weekend of the 5th? since that weekend has not been mentioned yet?

Its not a completely private lake as there is a public access on it but most of the people that are on it spear.  My family owns 1/3 of the lake shore on it. If you google 45.35685,-94.062774 it will center you on a tree farm and if you follow both the north and south borders it will bring you to the lake shore. There is not much structure to the lake but 2 deep holes in it.  If there is anyone from st cloud area that would wanna try it another time just PM me.

UO's lake sounds pretty interesting. The 5th is a problem for me however. It's my wifes birthday and she might kill me if I took off for the day ice fishing. Unfortunately then I would not be available for future outings. If I am only maimed I could perhaps attend other gatherings - depending on the severity of my injuries.

Perhaps Fawk we could coerce her into going ice fishing for Her birthday present. I think she would come if on the ice four of us promised to hold your arms and legs so she could deliver Her birthday spankings to you with a canoe paddle. That one would get air time on AFV and you could win one of those AFV t-shirts.
