I wish Her the best of luck. You Should not Have to worry too much old boy. Open Heart surgery today is about as routine as getting a couple stitches was when you were Her age. Granted it takes a little longer but She will be just fine.

She will be at Regions, one of the best in this country. She has been dealing with this for about
4 years and the health clinic could never figure it out.... Hopefully there is no heart damage.

She has never been normal General!  :rotflmao:

She has a hole between the right and left chambers the size of a quarter. It is not suppose to be there. They will go inside her heart and put a patch in there.

Randy very sorry to hear of her condition. Sounds like she is in good hands. I bet there is some relief in finally knowing what the problem is. Hope all goes well.

ohhh... I worked at medical device company in the twin cities with a patch that they used on VSD's (ventricular septal defect) . a close family friends daughter had a VSD and once she got it patched the parents could barely keep up with the kid it was like she was on redbull 24/7.

hope all goes well

My mom had the same thing this last year and kept having mini strokes and they put that patch in and she has been doing great.  My sister age 32 had a stroke 2 years ago and she had the same thing and she too received the patch.  She ran a marathon this last year.  I can't remember what the doctor said but it was like 25% of the population has this same thing.  If my memory serves me right to get tested they shoot bubbles into the heart and watch to see if they pass through.  Keep your head up!

Thoughts and prayers to your daughter and your family Randy.

As others have said, these days these are pretty routine for the docs to perform. That's not to say it isn't hard to see your child going through this so hang in there. The nice thing is that MN has some of the best docs and care in the world!

If you need anything, let me know. I live close enough that if you need a hand with something I'll be there.

Thanks everyone! What scares me is they have to bypass the heart and stop it so they can work on it. Then hope they can get it going again...

Randy,
When my dad had heart surgery I was also very scared.  The heart Dr. said that she loved working on younger people because they are stronger and are much less likely to die than old farts.  She also said that they can fix just about anything and have you home in a day or two.  They couldn't fix my dads heart problem without a lot of risks but she told him to come back in 5 years and it will be sameday surgery.  Good luck and I will have my religion class pray for your daughter also.
Smile Randy, it will help your daughter.

Thanks kid #1 ! She will be in the ICU for 24 hours and then 4 to 5 days in the hospitial. They
want to through the groin area which would be 1 day thing. But the hole is to large to patch doing it that way. Its gonna be a long week next week....

If they can fix a hole in a babies heart before it is even born it should be easier on a girl that has already been born.  Tell your daughter that chicks are tougher than men and that scars are the bomb.

She knows she is tough! 6'1 She could whip most guys asses!  On a side note.. My aunt Ev was
the first person to survive open heart surgery. I think it was the late 50's i think. She died in the
early 70's.
