DNR seeks public comments on Longyear Lake vegetation management plan
(Released February 24, 2012)

The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources (DNR) is seeking public comments from March 1-15 on the Longyear Lake vegetation management plan. Longyear Lake is located within the city limits of Chisholm in central St. Louis County.

The vegetation management plan, which was prepared by the DNR in cooperation with the city of Chisholm and a concerned citizen group, is intended to control the growth of narrow leaf cattail through manual cutting and the application of an herbicide. The proposed treatment area of the lake is 4.41 acres, which represents 2.8 percent of the littoral area of the lake.

A printed copy of the plan can be viewed at the Chisholm City Hall or the DNR regional office in Grand Rapids. Written comments about the plan can be directed to: Joe Mix, DNR assistant regional fisheries manager, 1201 East Highway 2, Grand Rapids, MN 55744, or by email to joe.mix@state.mn.us.
