This time of year, I like to get a few projects done.
One of which is antler mounting...

I made the plaques (sp)...
Taped up the antlers to a block of wood.
Added the first coat of putty.

Anybody else do this kinda stuff?

Final molding and shaping is done on this set.
Next is to put the velvet on and the braid around the base of the antler.

Nice looking plaques. I don't think I've seen that pattern before.

Now I feel a little guilty.  I just remove the hide and screw them to a plaque.  Of course, they are hanging in my garage so they don't have to be perfect.   :rotflmao:

I gotta wait till the putty is fully cured (it's alot of mass) I checked it yesterday and was still a little damp. Then I'll put the velvet stuff on. I'll post the pic when it's done.

Not bad HD, but way to slow for me! I use a plywood backer, then poor two part foam into a FG mold I made. Speeds up the process. Or If I am really feeling lazy, or just to busy I order the form (same as mine) already made!!! But in your case mass production is not an issue right?

Yea, I ain't in to big a hurry when I do these...just fills the time on rainy days...

Suppose I should build a mold some day, it would be faster (then mama would find other stuff for me to do)

Anybody know what that rubber junk is you pour over someth'in to make a mold is...or where you can get some?

HD,
Just make your mold out of fiber glass. You can pick it up just about anyplace. Not to mention it will last for years. Silicone is great for some applications but glass would be better for this one. Long lasting and cheap! Just don't forget to use some kind of release agent on what you mold. Turtle Wax works pretty good, and again available everywhere. Once you have your mold made don't forget to wax it before each use.
