So what do ramps taste like?  Onions?  Where do you find them?

Thats a reminder for me!! Yesterday I sprayed gardens and flowerbeds for weeds before anything comes up. I saw multiple asparagus spears 6-8 inches long.Tonight I will have them.Gettin a few sunfish off the dock maybe I will be lucky enough to catch a few to go with em!

Yes real mild onions. They are actually wild Leeks and Leeks are related to onions.Nice crunch with out the chewy leaves of scallions. The bulb just pops in yer mouth and melts away they are so tender.

RAMPS speakin a ramps!! I have a hard time motivating myself to get out in the garden so I watch TV news then the CHEW a cooking show.Today Mario Batali made ramp cakes heres the recipe.Sounds good.My supply a ramps cant be dug to much so next year I have some near home,BUT I may have to explore a neighbors property to try this one. Fiddlehead ferns should be my next wild eatable foray,They are delish also!
Heres the recipe for those who scavenage wilds!!>>http://abc.go.com/shows/the-chew/recipes/ramp-frittelle-mario-batali

Yes they are,I see some in there,Below the leaf look for that purple that fades to white.Dig some try em.Dont pull em they'll break off.Good root structure.Hopefully morrow is a Morel search for us.We'll take whatever we find in a 30 acre woods across the bay from home including ramps.

Them you have to have a good spot and soon as they start Just before they unwind their curl pick em.I got a bunch but their shaded from the south heavily. They aint a decent barometer of when the woods ferns unwind. In woods their kinda a lucky score while out pickin. Unless you have a spot.
