I had 7 deer come in as shooting hour was about to expire. One doe was rather large, with a limp. I'm not sure if it was from a car accident, or a previous encounter with an arrow. Either way, she stayed 90 yards out. Chip shot for a crossbow, but conventional, I didn't feel comfortable. I didn't take the shot.....

Just a reminder to Minnesota bow hunters this Thursday thru Sunday is the youth gun season for ages 10-15. Remember you have to wear your orange for those 4 days!

Hunting a mature doe, is harder than you think.
Bucks are easy, right now they are chasing and have only one thing in mind....which makes them vulnerable.
I had a small 6 pointer right under the stand while I was waiting to draw on the doe. He didn't move until after I took the shot. She was so alert, even G with his crossbow might have missed. As soon as she heard a slight noise, she sprung straight up in the air. When she landed, she bolted, and the little buck followed.

Well, I gave it a go on Thursday evening and Friday morning.  Not too much luck.  While taking my bow off the haul line Thursday evening I managed to stick my finger in the quiver slicing my finger tip quite deeply.  I found a paper towel in my pack and wrapped it.  I then found a gutting glove and tied it around the ball of paper towel.  I'm not sure what I would have done if I saw a deer. Yes, it was my trigger finger.  While back at the cabin that evening, I watched a decent 8 point feed under a stand about 100 yards away.  Friday morning found me in another stand about a mile from where I was on Thursday.  When I put my pack on (I had it on the back of the wheeler) I noticed the zipper was open when I left camp but didn't think too much of it because I had put a bungee over it for the ride out.  Once in the stand I quickly realized my release was not there.  I assumed it fell out while leaving the stand the previous night.  Nothing like sitting in a very nice spot hoping the big boy doesn't show up.  I lasted and hour and a half before I couldn't take it anymore and headed back.  I did find my release under the stand that I was in the night before.  So, I'm hoping I got that crap out of the way and can now resume more normal hunting.
***I started out with nothing, and I still have most of it.***

That's a nice story HD.   Now how about the real one.   Where right before you released you accidentally knocked over your empty beer can.  ;)

Been out for the last couple nights, not seeing much. A lot of roosters, grouse, and a few fawns.

I'll be back out tonight at home....we'll see. ..

I made it out this past weekend. Best thing that happened was when I got to our farm to hunt I discovered the farmer we lease the property to has harvested the corn. Usually he is late and doesn't harvest our property until a few weeks after rifle season. Kind of creates a problem when the corn borders the bedding area. Sat Saturday morning with out seeing anything. Checked my cameras, lots of deer pictures 12 different bucks on camera but only one mature one and that's the big 10 I'm after. Sat Saturday evening over my food plot and had to little bucks come out and browsed and sparred a bit. Then the 6 pointer smelled were I sprayed doe urine and he attitude took a 180. He started harassing the small one antlered fork horn, trying to mount the poor little fella and chasing him around. Sat Sunday morning and seen nothing. I will be putting the bow away this week because I won't have time to hunt this weekend. and start pulling all the stuff out for gun season.

Going to try and ambush one tomorrow .With this cold front and rain he should be on the move.. back in my younger days I would be out in this rain still hunting through the woods. That has always been my favorite way to hunt. The scrapes and rubs I found sunday really fired me up to get out in the woods. Now that I'm sitting here  thinking I may go sit  for the last hour tonight if the rain stops as they will be on the move when It quits.

Had to call off the hunt....

I had 2 deer, one fawn and one doe bolt by me. I look down the trail, from where they came. ...here comes some jackass walking down the trail towards me....sees me and cuts South.
SO, I call the boy to try and cut him off...no luck.
I get back to the house and drive over to the closest neighbors....and here this ass wipe is standing. I told him he was trespassing....he's like "I knew you rifle hunted, but didn't know you bow hunted"  :doah:

Long story short....after I chewed him out, he said it won't happen again.....yea right....friggin meth heads....
