Summit Stand Recall!

Summit Stands recalls tree stands due to a faulty weld in the frame.
One of the nation’s most popular manufacturers of tree stands had a climbing stand recall announced last Wednesday by the Consumer Product Safety Commission.

The Summit Explorer SD, which weighs approximately 20 pounds, was recalled for a weld in the frame that could break.

As of Wednesday, no injuries were reported. The seat platform is 38-inches long by 22-inches wide. The foot platform measures 36-inches long by 20-inches wide.

Summit treestands are a popular brand and historically durable brand many hunters often use.

This model contrasts with other models by the size of the platform and the bar that goes around the hunter. Summit introduced this model where the bar can fold down flat for packaging and carrying. Likewise, it includes folding stirrups.

Sporting goods stores stocked the Summit product for $360 nationwide during August 2016.

The CPSC said people should immediately stop using the climbing treestands and contact Summit at 800-353-0634 or at www.summitstands.com for instructions on returning the recalled product for a free replacement.

Nope it was a union shop.  If you look at the fine print they are recalling the ones built on Monday and Friday.

I can't remember what brand it was but it was a very popular tree stand.  They guys who owned the company were talking to me and they said they got out of it due to the huge liability issues.  I think they said they had to pay at least $30,000 each year just to cover their liability ins.  Every time someone falls out of a stand the first thing they do is go after the manufacturer.  So even if it had nothing to do with the stand they had to lawyer up to fight it in court.  This was about 13 - 14 years ago.
