and no HD..... i'm not talking eating mexican food or chili!!!!!!!!! :doah:

anyone know how these new gas pumps work???????? so last nite the wifey and i go down to the gas station to pick up our spearing and shelter licenses along with wax worms  for our new years trip. i wanted  gas for the snowblower and wheeler. i only use the non-oxy gas for that and as i am filling the 2 gas cans i'm thinking there's 6-8 feet of hose to that nossle.

these new pumps have just one hose nowadays with 3 selections for gas. with that length of hose how am i assured that i am getting the non-oxy gas and not the other lower grade gas??

this puzzles me as well as concerns me that i am not getting what i paid for in the higher priced product i want?????

Ya push the selector pad of the gas you want after turning on, silly! Duh! It opens/closes a valve to each respective line.  :doah:

Just for you, since I'm such a lovable guy, I did some checking on the API website....and guess what? You DO have some valid concerns! (for once) This is their answer to gas left in hose:

According to the American Petroleum Institute the gas-pump hose typically retains about one third of a gallon of  previous fuel.

So, I guess I'd take another can along, or just pop off half a gallon into your truck, then continue into the can....There. Happy Christmas, scooter!  ;D

Yup, the hose has gas in it.
Many years ago, when I  was a poor teenager, I always turned the pump off and then squeezed the trigger on the nozzle to get that extra cup of gas.....

I was going to admit I actually did not realize that there  was that much gas left in the hose, but figgered Glenn would just twist it around to make some to silly comment about my hose and the NL.    :moon:

Luckily places like Kwik Trip still have individual nozzles for each grade of gas at a lot of their outlets. That's about the only place I fuel up the Stude in the local area. The only bad thing is they have a rectangular sign on top of the nozzle handle saying it's non-oxy. That makes it tough to get under the gas tank door and deep enough into the fill pipe to keep from splashing gas all over when it kicks out. Shouldn't matter filling a can but kinda sucks otherwise.

Interesting thread,I only use non ox as well for my small engines, never thought about the cheap residue still in the hose, but I suspect the cheap 87oct will get deluted pretty good once you fill up your tanks.
