A houseboat Vacation has been penciled into my bucket list, so does anyone have any experience with such a vacation? Lake Vermillion in late August/September is what I am thinking of..

we went 3 years in a row 1985,86 an 87, 3 couples first 2 years 2 couples in 87.
Was alot cheaper then but we learned more each year!! Make sure to tow a small 14 ft boat an motor,Good for fishin and gettin away from a crowd.Bring all groceries they are costly up there,So is fuel For the houseboat and small motor you should bring,Calling for extra fuel costs 2X as much as dockside. You can radio in for most anything is their store costly so PLAN ahead

We went on the Canada side of LOW about 20 years ago, it was one of the best trips of my life. Until you see the Northern Lights from total darkness and that close you can't believe the splendor and raw power of them.

Hi Bobby - I have been on several of these, each time in September. Always went out of Crane Lake and boated into Namakan and Sand Point. Fishing was typically not great (usually because walleyes were in 40 feet of water or more). Great trips non the less. Beautiful time to be up there. Not a lot of boats on the lakes. Had some amazing northern lights. Typically the houseboat rental included a smaller boat and motor.

Years ago I handpicked 8 other buddies that I knew got along great.  We went to Morson and rented the biggest newest houseboat they had.  We towed two boats and brought our own motors.  We had the time of our life.  This was 35 years ago and we still talk about it.  We parked at a different spot each night.  MAPS are very crucial.  At least up there.  Wonderful time!!!  As a matter of fact a few years later I moved to Stillwater and after seeing the houseboats on the St. Croix I had to have one.  Had a houseboat there for maybe 7 years.  Spent every weekend on it.

It's a blast Bobby, we were up in the late 80s as well.  Went out of ash river into kabetogama and into namaken.  All the info above is perfect, all we had was a big map with all the beach the boat spots and go from there with the little boats, but then again technology has come a long ways since then. Definitely bring lots of supplies.  Yep like LPS said , after a week with the same people on board tensions can rise..have fun.

Thanks for the input guys, the prices have gone up that is for sure. But it is something that we have been talking about and if I am going to do it I need to do it soon. With the prices over 1500.00 for a week ( houseboat ) :doah:we are also thinking about renting a cabin with all the goodies so I guess I should open that up to anyone who has a good experience renting a cabin in northern mn ?

Do you want to do a "boat in" to a cabin, or drive to?

We have done a few "boat in's" , those are fun.....
