Even though I like my Green Mountain pellet grill it just isn't good for everything.  It is not a steak machine.  I have made it work but just not hot enough for that good sear.  I do have a kettle charcoal grill but sometimes when real windy that is a challenge too.  My gas grill is rusting out after 6 or 8 years of use so time for a new one.  A man needs multiple ways to cook outside. Looking at the Big M site and am thinking of CharBroil or Weber. They are the only 2 brands that you can buy parts for.  SO what is this infra red gas grill stuff???  I have always had a 4 burner grill but may go with 3 just so it isn't taking up so much room on the deck...   Opinions welcome....

I looked at one of those....have had three Char-broils, with no complaints. Those help sear/cook the meat, in a nutshell. It was between that and a new Weber Spirit. Bought the smaller two-burner Spirit because of the long 10 yr. warranty.  (Had a burner tube weld break after two years...Weber said "no prob" and I had a new one at my door in 3 days) Love it. What I really like, is it's so precise I can maintain any temp, including 225* for slow grilling/smoking of pork, up to 550* for a fast sear.  Couldn't maintain temps like that on any other grill I've had. Both have their merits, but I sure like mine....especially the electronic ignition system...touch the button, and it fires continuously, no more push *CLICK* push *CLICK*.  Just my two-cents worth...

I haven't  had a gas grill in years.    When I bought my CharGriller barrel type grill/smoker with the side firebox that solved the problem.  Great for grilling and can even slow smoke meats with that side fire box.  Of course its charcoal.  Don't have a problem with windy days unless your talking high winds and that's not good for anything. I think gas grills serve a purpose for those folks that are busy and have a family at home and time is limited.  Both my son-in laws have them and use them [husband and wife both work with young kids].  They have now bought electric smokers since they have seen what I do in them.  But they still use the gas grill the most.  There are times when it would have been nice to have one buti love to use charcoal for burgers, chicken and steaks, and vegies and the flavor seems to be better that way.  good luck.

I will say I liked my old Char-broil best for smoking stuff...put a big pile of chips in foil behind the burner tube, and that pup would have smoke just rolling outta there. Musta been the way the burner tube was in a ''straight" shape. I took a 1x2", put it on edge, and cut some notches in it. I'd prop the top open an inch or so with this to maintain a lower heat while smoking.

There is a Char Broil, 3 burner Infra Red at Menards on sale for $349.  I do like the side burner on our gas grill.  We use it quite a bit.  I cook bacon in my cast iron pan on it and we use it for canning on hot days too.

Got good reviews...most negatives on these is that they run too hot; they don't hold low temp well. That's why I made my "hood stick" with the notches.

Hi kemosabie....   lol  I do like the looks of those barrel stoves too.  I always stop and check them out.  I have the pellet grill for smoming so want the gas grill to replace the old one we have.  And yes it is for when it is too windy for the charcoal and want meat done a little quicker and easier on days I am not in the mood for charcoal...  Yup that's it Rebs.  It is the Professional model that is supposed to be the better quality one.

One thing with Weber's, is they never go on sale. Same price wherever ya buy. Before I realized all Lowe's stores should be bulldozed down, I decided to buy my Weber there...free delivery and set up. Gave me the Lowe's song and dance "Delivery is out at least three weeks"..ya, right.  Typical Lowe's crap. Stopped by an Ace Hardware (always overpriced) but grill is same price. Found out on Weber products, they assemble them in store and deliver free. Had it the next morning, they carried it up and around to my deck, plus they took my old one away. Might check into that...worth something.

A new Weber Genesis here last season, mostly for when we have a bunch of company. As well as when we are makin something quick(dogs, burgers brats) so we don't want to wait to start the charcoal. It works great for us, not cheap though. L & M is where we got ours, free assembly as good of $ as you can expect on them. We do have a couple Weber Kettle grills too.

Guys gotta have plenty of grills for different stuff...just like fishing rods and reels. After having three grills, a smoker, a wheeled fire pit, table with four matching chairs, lounger , and recliner on the deck, there wasn't room for me! Had to pare it down a bit.  Just two grills now.  ;)

Red Squirrels will eat onions, peppers, zucchini.....Just about anything.

I have a smoker too....But for quick meals, the grill works great.
