Once again, it's that time of year to plant trees. Every year we purchase at least a hundred trees to replace the winter kill.

This is today's project.

Mostly we plant pines because of the sandy soil.
But, when the apple trees go on sale, we add a couple more to the orchard.

from what I can see from the picture they look mostly like the long needle variety, aren't they more messy then the short needle type? I have a short needle type, birds love it for cover, but made does it produce pine cones. confused-3316.gif :bonk: :bonk:

Pine trees reproduce by producing seeds. Unlike deciduous trees, which produce seeds that are surrounded by fruit, pine seeds are located on scales of structures called cones (pine cones). ... Both male and female cones are on the same tree.

Yup, jack pine, red pine & white pine grow the best here. I have some of the spruces in my yard, but they grow slow.

I thought I only had 35 left....it was closer to 50....  :banghead:
