I tasted some dandelion wine a few years ago.  A buddy had his kids pick 2 5 gallon buckets full of them and then he made the wine.  It was real good too.  Have always thought of trying it.  No dandelions here yet.

Never had it.  When I was a kid in Duluth my neighbor had her father live with him.  he was in his 80's at the time and was Italian.  He made it all the time as I recall.  What is the process or could I just look it up on google I suppose?  good luck.

I may have started that post asking for a Grand Mas recipe of dandelion wine.Think it was 2015 spring time had the head gear on an could crawl around some. I do have one omiting all the fruit,I wonder if its mine.I do remember the posts sayin it wont work and the double ferment wont work.Altho mine turned out great.Evem some older ladies in their 80s said it was like they remembered. finished the last 12oz bottle last winter but a friend has 1/2 bottle left she shares with church ladies sundays.shes like 94 up an runnin!

This is the one I got....The citrus adds a good flavor with the Dandelions. When you cook the flowers, they kind of have an asparagus smell....

Dandelion Wine

Here is the recipe. Add 4 quarts of boiling water to 2 qt of dandelion buds and let sit for 24 hours. Add 2 cut up oranges, skins and all, 2 lemons cut up, skins and all. Add 4 pounds of sugar and boil for 20 min.
Strain (let cool to 100 degrees) and put in jug with 1/4 of a yeast cake (activated) and let ferment.
(One package equals ½ of a yeast cake)

Use a balloon or a rubber glove over the jug opening, with a pinhole to let out the carbon dioxide.

When the balloon deflates, filter with coffee filters to remove yeast and gain clarity.
To kill any remaining yeast, add one shot of good vodka to each bottle.

Makes 4 bottles of wine.

When you say "yeast cake" I assume that's a special winemakers yeast on not bakers yeast?

I used the regular 🍞 package last time. It works fine. This time I used brewers yeast.

I did get a recipe from a ole girl at the Willmar senior center.I went there over the winter to consume time and use/work the wood shop they set up Found a lady who remembered making it with her mom in the 40s
Not a defined recipe but it was lots of dandylions with white raisins (I took white raisins as golden raisins) all I got is a whole box of raisins in lots a yellow flowers from dandelion plants boiled up,Save the greens for salads,She is a kool lady! Add your sugar and yeast when cooled, once the ferment stops wait 1 week then bottle in dark glass.
I aint tried it but I knew there was a old time recipe without citrus
Next year I may try it UNLESS the 1000s of plants in the yard stick around for 2 more weeks and we get stuff done that hasent been done for the last 3 years

I pick the flowers and when I get home remove the stems. I leave the green part on the bottom of the blossom, give them a bath, then boil.

I put it in clear / blue bottles, and it's a yellow color when bottled. The biggest pain in the  :moon: is filtering for clarity. I keep looking for a better wheel to re-invent. But, coffee filters work, just take a long time....and a lot of them to achieve what I want.

The wine making guys have stuff for clarifying.   Sometimes they use egg whites.   Check out wine making sites or even wikipedia.

I'm gonna check some sites Del, just gotta find some time....  :happy1:

Fleet farm has those cotton towels on sale, and was thinking of using those as a "pre-filter"

You might try something called butter muslin also...

I think the tread count is fine (90),    but I'm not sure if it would take out the cloudiness of wine. The coffee filters take out the residue of the yeast, but it filters slow. It might work as a "pre-filter" , much like the cotton towels.
