This is how I do it. 5 or 6 ramps.  Blanch for 30 seconds and chill in ice water.  Mix with 1 stick of butter and a teaspoon of lemon juice in a food processor.  Dump mixture onto parchment paper and form into stick.  Freeze or use right away.

Its easier to find them before everything greens up.  I have a few spots that I harvest only a handful out of.

I'm going out in a little bit to hunt for some. Not sure if I have any on the farm, but I'm going to look closer at the swamp.

I usually find them on high ground.  Will need to dig out.  Or when you pull on them they break off.  They have a very strong onion garlic smell.

If you were Euell Gibbons, you would make a tasty FF and dandelion salad with vinegar with those greens... ;)

I remember reading that in his book when I was a kid.  :rotflmao:

Fiddleheads like sun Ramps like early spring sun but loose their leaves before leaves appear  on trees they like a full canopy of leaves summers shade an loomy soil. They only can be IDed for a short spring season, get in the woods that are shaded all summer.Good luck! My X wife who has passed away was Korean.  I used to take her and her friends for a whole day for fiddle heads.  They filled large plastic bags that I ended up hauling up to the truck.  I picked some also.  They made the best dishes out of them but they were all spicy [which I loved].  really miss that meal of fiddle heads.  I got a lot of recipes from her but not for fiddleheads.  They are supposed to be a big health benifit and are used big time in Korea.  Maybe that's why I got extra horny after eating them LOL.  Should never eat them around the nudist colony.  Then I would be called my nick name "The Shadowmaker".  good luck.

I have always wanted to cook up some fiddleheads but everything I have read talks about how highly cancerous they are if not rinsed many times etc.so I thought I will just eat lettuce and cukes....
