  • 2015 deer contest champ!!!
so yesterday on our way down to the game feed we stopped at the local holiday store to get out new fishing licenses.

now for 25 plus years we have got the resident combination sportsmans license, it includes hubby/wife fishing license and small game for me. i literally had it all written out on a piece of paper WITH the code number on it. well she managed to screw that up big time and after all said and done only ended up with the hubby/wife fishin license. so in the past i/ve noticed with some consistency this holiday's help manages to have issues, struggles with license purchases when it comes to more complicated license purchase.

i told my wife this before we left but she insisted going there, and i got to tell her..see i told ya so. :sleazy: :sleazy: anyway with all the dinkin around she did trying to void the original, like 3 times she tried, even though i have a receipt i question weather we still have a valid fishing license.

so just to verify if we do have a valid license i'm thinking of taking it to the local cop shop to see if they can check on it. its no big deal, i can get the small game license later. you guys have any thoughts or ideas on how to verify the new liscense???????

I went to one Holiday station - where I've had problems in the past - that stopped selling them in present.

Which surprised me, because I thought it would be a corporate-wide decision to sell or not sell.  But I 'spose when you have clerks who don't get adequate training, it doesn't make sense to hold up the checkout lines when you factor in how little each store makes on each license sale.

CLERKS ARE BRAIN DEAD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The only thing they know are their stoopid i-Phones!
Remember when ya stopped at Holiday to pick up shells, a hand heater, a shotgun or a .22? Got my first 12 Ga single shot Winnie at a Holiday, I think.  Those were the days..... :pouty:

It isn't just the Holiday clerks, it's everywhere.  When buying my archery and rifle license at Fleet Farm last fall, I tried to explain that I had a lifetime rifle license.  Twice i started to explain and even gave the clerk the license code but she just told me "I will get to that, let me finish this first". Well, you guessed it, my lifetime license was not printed but one I needed to pay for was.  Fifteen minutes and three people later they got it fixed.

I went to Muffin Mountain (gander) the other year for some .40 cal HP's they had on sale. Kiddie clerk points to a table of .40 solid FMJ's..."They're right there"....."No, I want the HOLLOW POINTS like in yer ad"  "Oh, we must be out of those". I find a bunch of them in the "regular" handgun ammo section, point it out to him. "Oh, those aren't on sale"    !!!  Me:  "They're the ones you show in yer ad!!!" He tells me those are still regular price...I told him to get Al down her right F**n now (Shooting mgr)
Al comes down, I explain the prob, he looks at the clerk, tells him to get me however many I want, because they are ON SALE, then told the kid to see him in back when he's done..... :angry2:

I always take my old license in with me & never have had a problem. They can either go off the DNR # on that or if they have a newer machine, I think they're able to scan the bar code. Glenn you can buy licenses online & print them yourself off from the DNR's site. You should be able to go there & enter the DNR # on your new license & have it tell you what the license is good for. I know that's more "work" for you  & not near as much fun as heckling the state people either. :bonk: ;) Never actually tried it this way but did check buying my license online out once a few years back.

If its on the special table, it must be on sale.  If its in the regular isle section, it has to be regular price.  Don't you know nuttin' 'bout stockin' shelves?   :embarrassed:

Knew he wouldn't want to, it's easier to complain about it & have somebody else check it out for him. :bonk: It makes no difference to me which state(Ia, Mn, Tn) finds a way to waste a little of my money. :tut: Costs me the same, just takes a little time.

HOT TIP:

What I did, like Barry, is make a couple copies, and fold and put them in those little free plastic folding license holders some places give out. Then I used a piece of self-adhesive velcro on the back of the folder, and a piece inside my boat and tackle box cover. Stick right to it. Then, every year, just pop the new license in the holders... no losing or looking for them.   :happy1:

I was just on their site & it took me 2 minutes to enter the MDNR # at the top off my license, my birthday, & the last 4 digits of my SS#. There is 2 other ways to enter your info using your driver license # & other types of ID. There was no place for me to purchase a new fishing license as I already have 1 but I could have purchased a duplicate for $2.50. I would think  it would be the same for you if you already have a valid small game hunting license you won't be able to purchase a new 1, just a duplicate. Oh & by the way it said MN DNR at the top & bottom of the page where you purchase them. In fact the bottom said Copyright 2010 MN DNR.

Had that happen too. At Target 3 or 4 years ago around Christmas, old card was destroyed & had a new 1 within 2 weeks. Card company said they were liable if something happened but nothing did. That was from some business I did in the store & not online, so 1 needs to be careful where we do business as well. I'm pretty diligent about checking on any credit card activity, checking it at least once or twice a week ever since the Target thing

That's happened to me twice, Gunner, and I don't use my card online. One time it was used to pay for utilities in Jalisco, MEXICO, (right after I used it at Home Depot...hmmmm) Last Fall I spotted a $110 charge for healthcare in Georgia, right after it happened....because I check my online statement 3x every week.  Cards and accts. Not liable for either, just pizzes ya off. By law, you have 30 days to catch it before yer liable.

You cannot buy a resident license in Minnesota with just your DNR #, you need a driver's license or state ID card number to verify residency.  The bar code is only on non resident licenses.
If you have a case like Glenn did, take it to another shop when they're not busy & try to buy another fishing license.  If the machine will not sell it, you already have one.  The state will only sell you one fishing or hunting license in a year BUT will sell you as many fish house licenses as you will buy since you can have many houses.
