I like that scenario.  I won't be a fan if they sign Erin.  Jones heck yes.

 I don't believe we'll be seeing Daniel Jones in purple anytime soon as the Fox pregame show yday said that 10 teams had already told them that they might be interested in signing him. So, he'll get some good money. :pouty: I sure hope #86 learned something about onside kicks yday too.

On the other hand if he takes his eyes off the guy and that guy recovers the onside kick where are they?

Freak play where the ball hits him although they say thats how teams will onside kick going forward, trying to bounce the ball off the recieving team.

 Heard yday that Jones actually mentioned both the Ravens & the Vikings as teams he's like to play for. They went on to say that it probably could be done for $375,000 for the rest of this season. But if they did sign him it would probably cost them a compensatory draft pick they should get for losing Hunter & Cousins as free agents after last season.

Why all the hype for the Vikes getting another QB?

Plan A was for Darnold to drive the bus til understudy McCarthy was ready, and McCarthy be the full time driver next year when Darnold is gone.  Plan A becomes riskier because we haven't seen McCarthy in action this year, but I don't think that changes Plan A.

I think Darnold has surpassed expectations in his one-year 'prove it' deal, but no one thinks so much so that the Vikes are willing to sign him to the long term deal he probably wants - even if they go far in the playoffs.

So why would they want Jones?
To replace Mullins as back up for the rest of this season?
To compete with McCarthy for the starting job next year?
To restart Plan A all over again next year with a new bridge QB?
Is the thinking that signing someone like Jones, who'll probably get a "prove it" contract next year, would be cheaper than trying to sign someone like Darnold - who basically proved it in his "prove it" deal?

Also, haven't the Vikes traded some of their mid-round draft picks in the next couple of seasons plugging holes as they've come up?  Maybe they'll need those compensatory pics to replenish.

Yeah, the thinking is that he would just replace Mullens as QB2 for the rest of this season, so if Darnold gets hurt they're not 1 & done in the playoffs. Besides, a lot of people think he'll play for somebody else next year & that will likely take a multi-year deal for more than QB2 pay. Which the Vikings probably won't want to do.

Ivan Pace was put on IR yday, so he's out for at least 4 games. So, the Vikings poached a former 1st rd pick at LB off of GB's pratice squad yday, in order to add some depth to that position.

Daniel Jones to sign with Vikings' practice Squad.

The reason Jones joined the Vikings’ practice squad is quite simple. For starters, their rookie quarterback, JJ McCarthy, is out for the season. Sam Darnold has done just fine in the starting role, but Jones provides more safety should an injury occur there.

Also, Jones has the flexibility to sign with another team, should a starting quarterback for another club suffer an injury.

Good read Gunner,  wonder what's going thru Mullens mind...I thought he did a great job on the 2 plays when he came in.

In my totally unqualified and uneducated opinion, I think it’s a good move for the Vikings. Mullens is ok, but I think he’s reached his peak and I can’t see him as a Case Keenum type hero that managed to over perform a few years ago. Jones has looked pretty bad in the last couple years, but had some good success early on. I don’t think having him as a backup over Mullens is a problem. On the other hand, just maybe the can resurrect his performance from a couple years ago with a good bunch of talented receivers and good coaching. All at a reasonable cost to the Vikings organization.
Just my humble opinion.

Near the end of the game the TV guys said that there's only 1 coach in the history of the NFL with a better record than KO'C in 1 score games & that's John Madden. :happy1: So, is it really just luck?

https://www.vikings.com/video/watch-o-connell-s-locker-room-speech-after-the-win-over-the-cardinals-x3118 Check out who got the 1st game ball......... a rookie that's only been playing a few snaps when he does get in the game  Cards played more zone & were tipping their blitzs in the 2nd 1/2 & that's what cost them the game according to Ben Leber in the video that follows KO'C in the lockerroom.

 Well, if he seen it, knows it, & willing to talk about it online, so does 1/2 of press row as well as 1/2 of the league, I would guess.

it wasn't so much that they were tipping plays... basically Ben said that when they showed all out blitz, they blitzed.  they didn't try to disguise it like the Vikes do presnap.

 Yeah, I should've watched the video again as he clearly explained that is what he meant when he said they were tipping their blitzs. In doing so in the 2nd 1/2 they made it easier for the OL to pick it up & gave Darnold an early read on where to go with the ball. That was just the opposite of the 1st 1/2 when they rarely showed blitz early but then sent somebody on almost a delayed blitz after the snap. The Vikings only had 4 possesions in the 1st 1/2, Darnold got sacked on 3 of those, & Jones fumbled on the other.

They opened the practice window for the kicker & the long snapper yday but neither have been activated off IR. But they did release the other longsnapper, so DePoala will likely play Sunday IMO. Romo is still on the roster the way it looks, so Reichard may not play on Sunday.

:happy1: Oliver, Reichard, & Depoala all took part in a full practice yday.  AVG, Pat Jones, Bullard, & Cashman were limited, so they'll most likely play. Jay Ward, & Gilmore didn't practice at all.
