oh ice a huge question cause my insurance agency is closed. At the risk of fun pokes I need help here, I dinged a old lawn ornament truck in a yard with my WORK vehicle, my boss said hes gona let me handle it cause he don't want his premiums to go up. so its on me. Im working with the guy. hes looking for a personal pay out of 600 bucks, which is more than the truck is worth. it currently don't run and is used as a garbage catch all, and has more rust and dings and scrapes than a demo car. Ill post pics later. MY question is, can I file a claim with my insurance company so they total the vehicle, which would be less than the 660 buck im sure that he wants. even tho I hit it with a company vehivle?

I say your company has all the legal responsibility here, not you..  this could get ugly I think...  and it sounds like he's after money too...

I'm not sure how your policy is written, you would have to ask your representative.

I have a clause on mine, covering other people's vehicles if I drive them and get into an accident.

I believe that all liability insurance you are required to have, is written that way.

BUT......if your insurance company pays out for a incident, they may go back after your employers insurance to get reimbursed.

So, it depends on how your policy is written....and that's what your rep would only know.

Sorry bud...

X2. if you where working its his issue not yours. what kinda guy is this chump your working for?????

and I agree with HD!!!!

and I question weather this is if this vehicle is nothing more then a lawn ornament or junk in the yard is a viable claim. I don't think your boss wants to fork out the cash, more then likely he may have I higher deductible. for 600 bucks he shuld write a check!!

Does they guy know you are paying out of your pocket?  Maybe he will have sympathy for you if he knows that.  But yes your boss has insurance for this type of thing.

Payout a claim in to yer insurance for $600? You'll pay out way more than that for that claim against ya in the future.

If you got a good paying job in Northern MN, and you hit a customers truck. What ever you do keep the Boss happy and get it handled.
He should cover his employees damages but you don't live in Kansas Dorothy!      :coffee:

I agree with Reb, think  I'd see if he'd take $500 of my cash. The increase in your premiums that follows you turning the claim in to your insurance probably won't take very long to cover that amount IMO.

If you turn it in to your insurance, you better say you were driving "your" car or they will go after you boss for sure.

No doubt it is the responsibility of the company.  BUT like Leech and others said it may be to your benefit to at least tell the boss you will handle it and then see if he mans up and covers it.  Maybe he will think about it over the weekend and tell you he will cover it.  It's only money.

Gotta agree with LPS. Kind of  for the owner of the business to raise a stink over this IMO.  :bonk:  :bs: The costs he would have finding & training a new employee because of the stink this caused could easily surpass $600.  :tut:  I think he'd be way ahead to write the check himself.

ok for some clarity, the CHUMP.as glenn.call him, is a great guy, very patient,.and understanding.and a good man.he has a very small.propane and fuel.bussiness. he gave me a chance after being let go by a jack asss, who wasnt a.decent guy. him and i talked about it with his partner, and i agree, tha why should his premiums go up on just a ding, when he pays out already 35,000 a year in premiums.l, when i wqs clearly at fault for.not being more attentative..i know what yu guys are saying, this aint a big city wher i have more options. this is northwest mn, wher a decent boss and a good job are hard to.comeby.

Your options:

A. Your boss won't pay. You agree with him.
B. You admit it was your fault.
C. No police report was filed by either party.
D. Guy with truck you dinged wants unrealistic monetary settlement.

Your choices:

A. Negotiate with him for a fair price, and pay him.
B. If "A" doesn't work, then tell him to file a small claims court complaint, or shutup.

$600 for the bonk on THAT rambling wreck?! HAHAHA! Entire thing ain't worth that! Tell him to take $200 or call Judge Judy.

that 35 grand is the cost of doing business for the type of business he's in. OK so the boss is a good guy, appears the other guy is a jackoff.

I have no skin in this...……..you talked it over with the boss man you guys seem to have an acceptable plan go with it. it's whatever keeps everyone happy. now the other guy i'd make him a miserable...………………. tell him your gonna bring an INS adjuster out.

So it's working in your favor then.  I like the offer of $200 cash or we get the insurance company involved.  He doesn't want to give you info for a reason. May not even be his truck.  May not even run.

Is it licensed and insured?  Do they have to be as they are in Baudette?  Even junkers sitting in a yard here must be licensed and insured.

Just have to tell him you decided to pay for the damage yourself as you are new at your job and don't want to piss the boss off.  Can only afford $100 - $150 cash cuz that's all you have, or will have to get the insurance company involved.

He might be already havin 2nd thoughts  since it's not turning out to be easy & quick $. Once Boar asked him for make & model he might have somethin to hide & not want the insurance companies gettin involved. :tut:
