Yup they are a pain in the behind.  A portable air tank works to blow them off but don't get too aggressive or it will damage the screen.  I blow them from the inside pushing them back to the outside.

Glad I don't have them around me.  Mostly oak.  Screws up your fishing line also.  good luck.

Not just cottonwoods.  All the popples do it.   Last day of our Quetico trip, sun came out and there was a blizzard of cotton on the lake.

Darn near impossible to fish in that stuff.

I agree, it makes a heck of a mess on your line. Never had much problem on my windows though. A agree that a blow torch or a flame thrower would do the trick.

We have some giant cottonwoods here in our gully.  They are so big that they have branches fall off with the storms.  We try to keep up with cutting and burning them.  I am going to ring them with my chain saw and hope they all die.  I can't put my arms around many of them.

My screens are removable, so I line them up against a garage and use my pressure washer.

When the fuzzys are real bad I won’t go out fishing. To much of a hassle.

I have a row of old,old cottonwoods on the west side of my windbreak. I am not really a big fan of them. They throw so much shade on trees that are trying to grow and when they break off a tree sized limb it does a lot of damage to the smaller trees.

I live in the Missouri river bottoms and deal with this every year.  The best remedy I've found is to just spray them with a garden hose.  When it gets wet, it sticks together and slides to the bottom of the screen.  Then you can just pick up the wet clumps of it.  Starting now for the next few months I have to wash down my air conditioner at least twice a week so it doesn't plug it up.

So do you just spray the AC with a hose too?

Yes only the outside of it.  Not into the middle/fan area.  When it get's bad, I will try to take a few pics and post them on here.

  • "Seems like time is here and gone".....Doobie's
Spraying the fins with a hose nozzle will blast the stuff right thru. I do that anyway probably 9-10 times during the summer to keep the fins clean and able to radiate the heat out.
I actually take my electric yard blower in the house, put on the "flat tip",and ala Bill Murray, and blow the fluffies off the screen right back outside.
