got in to the first batch of seedless watermelon for breakfast today, darn good wherever it came from, nice way to kick off the long weekend, fire the grill up this weekend,burgers/brats,fresh watermelon on the side, maybe another batch of country style potato salad before my pup digs in. Gotta love this time of year, few bugs out, mild temps and most of all above ground.

Have you guys ever grown Lambkin melon? Also called the Christmas Melon? All American award winner. My family loves this one. So I always plant 2 hills of it along the other 6-8 varieties of watermelons and other kinds.

that inside looks more like a cantaloupe. :rotflmao: nope never have, never seen them in stores that I recall???

I'd need another 20 acres to plant some of that stuff. :doah: we tried growing watermelon and stuff like that growing up, but when they'd get close to getting ripe some asshats would come at night and smash them  :angry2:

We lived on a main drag in town. Sure that didn't help.

They are called Christmas melons because they supposedly keep until Christmas. Mine never last close to then. You very seldom see them  in grocery stores. I used to grow Honeydews but they are to difficult to tell when they are ripe. So Cantaloupe, Christmas Melons, Israeli Melons all turn yellow when ripe.

I haven't planted mine yet. They are started in peat pots in my little greenhouse on the patio. They get planted on Sunday. They want heat so I put row covers over them for a couple of weeks.

This year I am growing 3 cantaloupe.....Goddess, Halona, and Orange Sherbet.
Galia.....San Juan and my favorite.....Sensation.

Watermelons.....Blacktail Mt., Yellow Petite, Lemon Krush, Sweet Beauty,
and seedless.....Sweet Eatin and Charismatic.

Can't wait for August to get here and start eating ripe melons.

Good grief Ken W sounds like you have quite the operation at your place, tried over the year's  pumkins, water melon's etc, critter's and worms got the best of them, today I take the lazy way, these seedless water melons cut up,chilled on these hot dayz are great, reminds me of the old days poking a hole in a melon then a jug of vodka opened to plug the hole, let this sit on a freezer shelf over night, watch out hot summer beach day.
