Came across this article as I'm well into this age bracket....thought it is worth posting incase other's have question's

Who's afraid of Alzheimer's?

 
Since I'm in my 7th decade, I thought that this was interesting - I hope some of you do also. The best way to take the tests at the end is to display the post so the table for the test do not have carriage returns.
In the following analysis the French Professor Bruno Dubois Director of the Institute of Memory and Alzheimer's Disease (IMMA) at La Pitié-Salpêtrière - Paris Hospitals / addresses the subject in a rather reassuring way:

"For some time now, I have been stuck and I do not know what we were I talking about ... before, I was afraid it was the beginning of Alzheimer's ... but today, after reading this article, I am reassured."

"If anyone is aware of his memory problems, he does not have Alzheimer's."

It often happens in people 60 years and older that they complain that they lack memory. "The information is always in the brain, it is the "processor" that is lacking. "

This is "Anosognosia" or temporary forgetfulness.

Half of people 60 and older have some symptoms that are due to age rather than disease. The most common cases are:
- forgetting the name of a person,
- going to a room in the house and not remembering why we were going there ...
- a blank memory for a movie title or actor, an actress,
- a waste of time searching where we left our glasses or keys ...

After 60 years most people have such a difficulty, which indicates that it is not a disease but rather a characteristic due to the passage of years ...

Many people are concerned about these oversights hence the importance of the following statement:

"Those who are conscious of being forgetful have no serious problem of memory. Those who suffer from a memory illness or Alzheimer's, are not aware of what is happening."

Professor Bruno Dubois, Director of IMMA, reassures the majority of people concerned about their oversights:

"The more we complain about memory loss, the less likely we are to suffer from memory sickness.

- you can cancel your annual visit to the neurologist.
- your brain is in perfect shape!
- you are far from having any relationship with Alzheimer's.

So, share this with your over-60 friends, it can reassure them

Hahaha... little forgetful things pease me off,lately forgetting my phone in my truck.

I remember my parents once in they're 80's always doing crossword puzzels to keep they're brain working,no computer,just old school folks,bought my dad puzzels to pass the time in senior care,94yrs old yesterday,old fart was bike riding until he was 90 yrs old until I told him "no more" after he crashed twice one summer that I was aware of.Today dementia has taken over,I see in his eyes he has given up on life,he had a good run,kept in good phyical condition,now the mind is all but gone,amazed he still remembers my name and who I am.

Too bad Snow.  My Dad is starting to deal with it but is in good shape and has a good attitude.  My Mom and him still get along great.  I am thankful for that.  He is 89.

I fixed the forgetting where I put glasses years ago. I only ware them for reading so I simply buy them by the dozen and spread them all over so I'm never too far from a pair. 

We seriously considered giving them out as gifts from the business at Christmas at one point. Guys were always forgetting to bring their glasses along when they wanted to go over their soil tests, etc.

I have been diagnosed with a slight memory loss at my local clinic.  The boss was concern about her hubby.  LOL!!!  Wednesday, I went out to crush my cans and the were already crushed Tuesday in that cold.  I was very confused.  Thursday morning woke up and thought you dummy, you found your snow suit, gloves and bundled up to get it done.  Things like that are at times confusing and names are the worse for me.  Good ol' what's his/her name.

An oldie, but goodie...

An old married couple noticed that their memory was not as good as before. They were worried that this could be dangerous, because one of them could accidentally forget to turn off the stove and cause a fire.

Their doctor told them that many people their age write little notes to remind themselves. The old couple thought this was a very good idea.

When they got home, the wife said, "Darling, will you please go to the kitchen and get me a dish of ice cream? And why don't you write that down so you won't forget?"

"Nonsense," said the husband, "I can remember a dish of ice cream!"

"Well," said the wife, "I'd also like some strawberries on it. You'd better write that down, because I know you will forget."

"Don't be silly," replied the husband. "A dish of ice cream and some strawberries. I can remember that!"

"OK, dear, but I'd like you to put some whipped cream on top. Now you'd really better write it down now. You'll forget," said the wife.

"Come on, my memory's not all that bad," said the husband. "No problem, a dish of ice cream with strawberries and whipped cream."

With that, the husband went into the kitchen and shut the door behind him. The wife could hear him getting out pots and pans, and making lots of noise.

He came out of the kitchen about 15 minutes later, walked over to his wife, and gave her a plate of bacon and eggs.

The wife took one look at the plate and said, "Hey, where's my toast?"
