So I didn't notice a time clock on the pitchers last night. Don't they do that in the playoffs?

Apparently they do still have the pitch clock for the playoffs and World Series, but I had the same impression as you - wondering if from time to time the ump wasn't looking at the clock.  What was probably happening is that someone was calling timeouts.  I know the batter only gets one and all, but I can't explain it otherwise.

I do recall one play, where a runner stole 2nd after two throw-overs, the announcers said the baserunner had the advantage because the pitcher was holding the ball until there was only one or two seconds left on the pitch clock - which meant the runner could better time his jump.

As much as I like playoff baseball, I'm not sad to see this one done, with the two biggest payroll teams duking it out.  I know that doesn't happen every year, but baseball would be better with more parity.  Obviously the big money owners who control the game and players union that benefits from the few teams that don't care how much they spend disagree.

I loved the Freddy Freeman story.  I don't dislike AJud (see what I did there?), but he sure showed his humanity - couldn't hit and booted a ball that kicked off the Dodgers 5-run comeback.

i was shocked to see the Dodgers come back and win that?  last i looked it was 5-2 yanks!!!! i became a Dodgers fan after Freeman hit that walk off slam!!!!!! 

did he win the MVP  cause he should of!!!!!!

i still got a bad feeling when the Twins won a world series many moons ago and Viola was MVP  and not Gladden!!

He did; deservedly so.

It was a real lackadaisical inning the Yanks had defensively to blow it.  They were only charged with one error for the game, but that inning had three bad mistakes.  Judge dropped a shallow fly because he took his eyes off the ball.  There was a short throw from the shortstop to 3rd that bounced in front of the third basemen, who couldn't pick it.  And Cole didn't cover the bag at first on a play he felt the 1st basemen should have taken himself.  Any one of those outs would have thwarted the comeback.

Yankees Defeat Yankees In World Series

NEW YORK, NY — The 2024 Major League Baseball season ended in historic fashion, as the New York Yankees successfully defeated the New York Yankees in the World Series.

Despite their best efforts, the Yankees were unable to overcome the Yankees, opening the door for the Yankees to pull out a victory over the Yankees in Game 5 in the Bronx.

"We were just too much for us tonight," Yankees manager Aaron Boone said following the loss. "We felt like we had a good game plan, we knew we were behind in the series and had an uphill battle, but we were confident we could win. Key strategies employed by the Yankees to defeat the Yankees included having Aaron Judge drop a routine fly ball, messing up a simple throw to third, and Gerrit Cole not covering first base as though he were playing for a AAA Little League team.

Though disappointed to come up short, Yankees players were quick to give credit to the team that defeated them. "You've got to hand it to us," said star New York slugger Aaron Judge. "We were clearly able to stop every attempt we made to win this series. It hurts. But, hey, you've just got to tip your cap to us for beating us out there on the field tonight. We'll just rest up during the offseason, come back next spring, and make another run at it. Hopefully, we don't run up against us in the playoffs next year."

At publishing time, baseball fans across the country were congratulating the Yankees on soundly defeating the Yankees.

  Actually, the box score says they had 3 errors for that game, Steve-0. The 1st error was of course Judge misplaying that soft line drive, #2 was the throw from Volpe(SS) to 3rd base & it looked like he just hurried that. So, he never really had a grip on the ball before he threw it in the dirt. The final error was on Wells for catcher's interference. I'm sure he's busted up about it, but on the other hand, has had plenty of time to face the reality that it wasn't to be for him.  Some athletes just have to deal with injuries that hinder their careers, and Kirilloff is one of them.  And rather than be miserable trying to live up to a potential he likely will never achieve again, get out and move on. 

I don't know him from boo, but often times those are the guys who make the best coaches and managers.  Again, good luck.

He was the Twins 1st Rd pick in 2016 & had a great season in the minors in 2018.

    Did you know that Judge is what 6'7" I think they said and 285 lbs.  He is bigger than most big football players but sure can move better than most big front line boys.

I forgot that Kirilloff had Tommy John surgery early in his career, then he had at least 2 surgeries on that wrist, & last season he only played 57 games because of a lower back injury. So, this does not really come as a surprise to me........................"During my career, I've encountered numerous injuries, which led me to search for new ways to overcome pain constantly," Kirilloff said. "These challenges have taken a toll on me mentally and physically; over time, I've realized my passion for playing the game has shifted. Baseball demands an 'all-in' approach, something I've brought to every season. However, I can no longer give it the total commitment it requires. I've always believed that playing this game requires 110% effort, and anything less would not do justice to my teammates, coaches, fans or the game itself.

Yeah, that's too bad all the injuries have killed his dream as a kid ........................but he's still young enough (26) to find something else he likes to do & is good at. It seems like he is a hardworking, smart guy, that was raised right  & I wish him nothing but the best.

They can fix you mentally if you break down but physically when you are done you are done. I was always a big fan. He had a nice swing and his approach seemed right. But mostly he had the desire. All the injuries and he never complained, he just did the work to get back. But, at some point you have to realize it's just not going to happen. I wish him and his family the best for the future.

He grew up in western Pennsylvania & his dad was a baseball coach, so he's been around the game since before he was even able to walk. So, I really doubt he won't miss it & get back into the game someday, somehow. Maybe even as a coach like Steve-o said, or maybe play amateur ball.

There are worse owners out there than the Pohlads, be careful what you ask for. We will never get a Cohen or Steinbrenner type owner, the market just won't support one.

Nice, but they aren't the buyers. They are the first who might be interested. There will be more and i'll stick by my opinion that there are worse owners out there.
Has anybody seen a legit number of what the Pohlads are asking? Only thing I've seen is what Forbes or whoever estimated the franchise value at. I've not seen an actual asking price.

The league has become those that have and those that don't. There is zero incentive for markets sized 9-30 to attempt to spend to win. You won't outspend the Dodgers, Yankees, Mets, Red Sox, Phillies, Braves, Giants or Rangers. You just won't. The deck is stacked against those teams. Go grab a nag from Canterbury and enter it in the Kentucky Derby, you would have a better chance of winning.

Lord willing the team will be on TV for my baseball fix. I'll never set foot into Target Field or buy the swag, but i'll always be a baseball fan. (well until Manfred changes all the rules and makes it unwatchable)

Good for him but we will miss him.  He is one of our favorites.

The writing was on the wall as they tried to trade him before this last season started.  I think he was making $10 mil/yr with the Twins too. Always top notch with the glove but not real consistent at the plate. I was a fan of his too.

Keplar had a good run and I always rooted for him.  He always played just good enough to hang around and teased everyone with his potential such that they didn't want to 'sell low' on him, but I guess it is time to start bringing new guys into the system.

I think they have the guys to replace him or they might not have let him go. But yes, they will be cheaper and probably just as good.
