Fleet sold 37 firearms to 2 people in 16 months.  They were straw buyers and at least one person was killed with one of the guns.  May be an issue???

Lessee...here's a guy with little man syndrome, who has a reputation for hating cops, beating women, being soft on crime and criminals then suddenly discovers his sorry arse is in serious danger of getting beat. His actions appeal to the gun control crowd and that's about it. Bringing Bernie Sanders in might help him in Duluth but out here in the land of rocks and cows, it would be difficult for him to be any more disliked than he already is although that might just do it. However, neither he or Walz will campaign openly in outstate. They saw what happened to Walzo at Farmfest where the DFL bused in participants wearing matching T shirts. Those clowns didn't look remotely like farmers. His handlers did their best to keep him away from the crowd so he didn't have a meltdown. They are both cowards and want to avoid confrontation at all costs. Hey, it worked for Sleepy Joe, didn't it?  :doah:

Right. But it is not FF job to weed out straw man purchases. They do the background check like they are required and they were cleared to sell the firearms. This falls further up the food chain then FF. For one it falls squarely on the person making the illegal purchase. That is who Ellison should be going after. But I am sure that person is of the wrong color and would cost him more votes.

They did and she was convicted.

Eden Prairie Woman Charged with Illegally Straw Purchasing Multiple Firearms

The good news is that Fleet Farm presumably followed all of the procedures to make a legal sale.  The laws are working the way there were intended and an illegal gun BUYER is behind bars.

It will be a gross miscarriage of justice if this one doesn't get thrown back in Ellison's face.

It is more of a civil suit than a criminal suit.  Maybe it will lead to a better system where the people are flagged for buying 98 guns from different places in a year.

You'd like to think there'd be a better way to that, but you know the NRA and others will oppose every step of the way as we all know this is a slippery slope.

Right, because who decides the limit and waht it should be. If I ever win the powerball. 98 might just be the warm up.  ;) :rotflmao:

I don't think anyone wants to sell guns to criminals.  So, I don't think money is the issue at all.

You don't think straw buyers are criminals, selling to other criminals to make money?
You don't think the criminal Ellison going after Fleet Farm for blood money is just about the money?
You don't think Daunte Wright momma got $3.25 mil for his death wasn't about the blood money.
You don't think Daunte Wright girl friend is suing his mother for not sharing some of the money for his son, her grandson which was promised to her because it's not about the money?  Then you may not know what criminals that live in the cities really are!   :undecided:

One point Ellison was making is that all Fleet Farm and other gun sellers and makers care about is making money - they don't care who they sell to.

My point is that Fleet Farm wasn't looking the other way on a potential straw man purchase just so they could make money.  They were simply conducting a legal sales transaction.  Hopefully the court case will bear that point out.

KSTP had an interesting article about strawman purchase.  Near the bottom they talk about how employees at Frontiersman gun store have turned away customers.  I'm not sure what grounds they use or what the law says about how you can do that without being charged with discrimination.

Straw purchasing of guns contributing to Twin Cities crime wave

“In the last year and a half, it has increased significantly,” said Krause, who owns Frontiersman Sports in St. Louis Park.

He recently posted additional signs warning customers that it is illegal to buy a gun on behalf of someone else who is prohibited.

“We’ve had to refuse service or ask people to leave. It was at a point where it was multiple times a day for a while,” Krause said.

Frontiersman was the last place where Horton Jr. bought guns, according to a federal complaint. Prosecutors say he continued to make purchases after the mass shooting in St. Paul until store workers got suspicious and turned him away.

“They’re our first line of defense,” Ortiz said about licensed gun sellers. “You don’t want to deprive somebody of their right to possess or purchase a firearm, so it’s a hard job for them.”

Agreed!  The gun guys at Fleet Farm may be the only ones in the store that know their jobs!  :happy1:

With his buddy Walz busy buying votes it would be counterproductive for Ellison to prosecute those same folks.
