Was getting grumpy after shoveling up screenings tonite, thinking I'll have unhook the automatic waterer at the pasture. It's supposed to get down into the upper teens with some light accumulations of snow. Saw the map on the news for ND so punched in the Rolla/Rocklake area where  I used to live. 6"-9" of snow with lows in the single digits a couple nights. Suddenly upper teens didn't sound so bad.

The only bright side of the cold weather on the way is that it should drop the water temp in my area and really fire up the fall bite. The water temp on Monday was still 53-54 deg. I’m thinking by this next Monday that’s likely to be down in the 46-47 deg. Range. That is about where the fall walleye bite really seems to kick in.

Only .07" of rain at the ranch & .10" in Bugtussle. 1.22" & 1.3" over the past 4 days respectively. Air is heavy but the forecast is only for another tenth to a quarter inch today and perhaps tonite. Some farmers already starting to worry that they won't be able to get fall nitrogen on. Good grief! It's not even the end of October yet and with rainfall amounts like those falling over the course of several days plus dry subsoil underneath, think they need to find something else to worry about. This map? That would be something to worry about.

Just a tich over a quarter of an inch.  Steady light rain.  Better than snow.

I don't know what we got.  I saw Dotch's post about pulling his gauge and I thought I better do the same before I forgot and it froze.  :pouty:

Think that was mikey who posted about pulling his gauge. I'm in it for the long haul since the data gets reported to the MN State Climatology Office daily. The center cylinder on our gauges will get pulled prolly tomorrow nite as they'll crack if the temps fall to the levels forecast. The outer cylinder is large enough so the temp doesn't bother. However, the diameter (4") still isn't wide enough to measure snow accurately unless it's very still, the snow is heavy, and it comes straight down. That's usually a whole 'nother ballgame, more like horseshoes and hand grenades especially in the wide open spaces.

Well we just hit 1/2" mark from this storm coming through.  Just got my coat and boots on to go make some ruts to get water to run off the gravel driveway.  Here comes Jake who I was also looking for.  Wet as can be.  I toweled him off.  The rain is getting thicker and looking like slush on the deck.  It is 35 here.

We got that 1/2" of rain till I took the rain gauge down.  We woke up to 4-5" of snow and it is still coming down but supposed to about be over with.

We got about a 1/2" of rain here in Bemidji and snow has stayed just north of us.  Looks like the rain is supposed to quit here pretty soon.

A tad chilly and Windy out there this morning. Looking at the forecast it looks like our nice fall run may have come to an end.

Same here. Latest forecast sounds like an inch of snow tomorrow & maybe half inch Sunday. Total rainfall since Sunday nite is 1.58" at the ranch & 1.55" in Bugtussle. Has ground the remaining harvest & tillage operations to a halt. More crabby cash grain farmers who don't deal with adversity very well. Looks like we should get into a warmer stretch after the 1st week in November. Make it all better.  :coffee:

What a mess that would be.  Ours was bad enough.  Water was really running down the driveway as it melted yesterday.  Still very white here.

Snowing here, kind of hard, & big flakes so the ground is turning white. Nothin on radar though.

Gotta finish up a couple of things yet.  I'd like to get the lawnmower and patio furniture in the shed before it snows tonight.  If not, hopefully the snow will melt next week and I can get it done then.
