Frost depth is starting to decrease. It was 20" at Waseca on the 10th. The walk in door on the barn is closing & latching again. Yard has firmed up as well. The LeSueur River was up substantially yesterday as the snow continues to melt. Most of what's left is in the road ditches, grassy areas & along rivers & streams.

There was a little water running out of the side of paper mill in GR 3 weeks ago. Then 2 weeks ago they had a couple gates cracked a bit & close to 1/2 of the river upstream of that bridge was open. Last week the gates were open a little more & it was all open upstream, plus probably at least 75 yards downstream of the bridge too. This week the Mississippi was close to 1/2 open where that big bend in the river is just east of Cohasset. Last week the next dam downstream from there, where the DNR has an office by that campground only had a small area on the south side open. This week it's open upstream just past that railroad bridge & downstream of that dam at least 50 yards.  The puddle out between the garage & the new shed has shrunk from what it was when the neighbor just got here on Monday too.

The latest map of snow totals has us right on the edge of the heavier amounts. The local TV guy's map showed Scenic, JB, & LPS in the 4-8" range. The hourly has it turning to snow ~ 9am & not stopping until around 4. They have us getting 4" now, that was 1-3" yday. Winds NW 15-25 too, with higher gusts.

They just updated us to 5-8" tomorrow as well.  100% chance of snow.   But they also were reporting rain here last night as well.   Was not a cloud in the sky when they were reporting that as we were watching the moon eclipse.

You won't even need your blankie to nap on top of the flour pallets today! 76 for a forecast high although they've been overly optimistic as of late. Still enough snow hiding here and there to knock a few degrees off. I took my steel electric fencepost and probed around the yard to see how deep the frost was. Depends on where you look. In the garden where it's bare & black on a south facing slope, very little frost left. In the sod upslope from there, it's thawed down about a foot. In the small garden that had some leaf cover but was bare in places, frost is down ~18". I keep forgetting I have a penetrometer so will take that home & poke around with that. It has nice handles on it for easier pushing, sorta like what glenn says about those Inger hotties... :coffee:
