Another Transom Done

Been a bit busy in the shop.   This one was dropped off a trailer and cracked the transom.  Lots of welding on the back of this boat.

He was a very happy man.  That boat is his baby.

I do some of it but the kid does more of it.  He is better at it than I am.

Thanks for the kind words.  My goal is to put them out like new or better.  These boats are a lot of work but I do enjoy working on them.  I am working on one right now that had a tree growing on top of the deck in the rotted wood.  Used hazmat suits to take it apart because of all the mold.   It was a mess but we are bringing it back to fish again.

Cant wait to see Nautalund II done, I will cry for sure if it looks anything like this boat does.
I also cant wait to see how it does with a new Suzuki DF115 that I am repowering it with when I get it back, looking forward to the quietness of a four stroke vs the Merc 75 two smoke that was on it, and of course a bit more speed.

Unlike you catching crappie, walleye, and cabbage cougars over a foot long is too easy for me up there, Scenic knows a spot where I can catch a 15 inch long bullhead!

Thanks HD.   Yes it is tricky and time consuming.  A few I had to do over and over until it was right.

That is a real talent Scenic! Around here, if it can't be fixed with a bale twine & duct tape, it can't be fixed.  Since the guy running the boat shop north of me retired, I had no idea who even does those sorts of things anymore. There was another guy on St. Olaf Lake who did aluminum welding as well. Built lots of lifts, docks, ramps, etc. He retired too.

Thanks Dotch.  Its one of those fun challenging work things.  Every one of them is different but fun to take what some would see as beyond usable and make it new again.  Boats are expensive these days but if you have a solid hull and transom you have the solid "basement" of the boat.  Houses can be rebuilt on a sold basement.  So can boats.   And some just need to be fixed too.   

Rebuild it, repower it and reuse it.
