One of the things I really like about this site is that the discussion isn't dominated by Twin Citians.  And since there so many are from the Land of Rocks and Cows (where I someday hope to be), I don't know how many of y'all ever listened to or care about KQRS.  But, I'll post this up anyway.  :rocker;  Apparently all the geezers who sewed their wild oats listening to KQ are moving past the target demographic age, which is so important in today's modern radio business.
 :pouty:
KQRS makes lineup changes as classic rock station moves into the '90s

The station relaunched on Thursday morning at 6 a.m. with an expanded musical focus, new on-air talent, and new shows. The new additions include former Cities 97.1 host Paul Fletcher and former Current music director Jade.

In addition to the rock cornerstones the station has long had in the rotation — Tom Petty, Led Zeppelin, Rolling Stones, et al. — owner Cumulus Media says the station will put a larger focus on '90s rock and Minnesota artists, such as Prince, Soul Asylum, The Replacements, and Bob Dylan.

The revamped lineup is anchored by radio personality and founding member of the Black Crowes, Steve Gorman, who will continue to host KQ's morning show after taking over the slot in 2023 following the 2022 departure of Tom Barnard.

Paul Fletcher, who was let go as a Cities 97.1 host in a round of iHeartMedia cuts last summer, is joining Gorman and co-host Ryder on the newly named Gorman in the Morning with Fletcher and Ryder.

It follows the exit of Brian Zepp, who was let go from the KQ Morning Show in a move that provoked fans to start a petition to get him back on the air.

G'luck.   :coffee:

Grow up in Mpls, grow up listening to KQRS, didn't even know they were still on the air?  Moved on to tunes on YouTube where I can pick and listen to music I like anytime I like. Like Zeppelin, CCR, Fleetwood Mac etc, etc.  :rocker;  :coffee:

Interesting. I catch KQ every once in a while flipping around the dial when out and about. Can't always get the signal consistently in my travels so opt more often for the local classic rock stations. Sometimes I get tired of those stations focusing a large amount of air time to bands like Queen so that sometimes is a factor. Queen is fine in small doses & I get the virtue signaling thing but hey, I was listening to that stuff when it was new. It wasn't that impactful then and it still isn't IMO. Sometimes I think I have more diverse music in my collection than they do. Interesting approach by KQ trying to highlight MN artists. Will have to check it out.

They don't want to admit it, but if they're switchin' to 90's music, they're just another "oldies" station in town.  :bonk:

Yeah, we Minnesotans love the home town, Minnesota angle.   :coffee:  How many songs can you name by The Replacements?

God bless him, but when was the last time Bob Dylan was relevant?

Replacements? What are those?  Bob Dylan: Um, 1963?... I'll give Dylan his due though. Great lyricist & songwriter, influenced many generations of musicians over the years. Not exactly Jimmy Page on the guitar or Robert Plant on the vocals however. Few are... :rotflmao:

Exactly.  You don't tune into KQ to hear "Minnesota" music - whatever that is.  But that's apparently what the new Brain Wizards at the station are counting on.

The problem is 'classic' rock is dead.  Who are the new acts?  Who's putting out good, new rock music?  Kids today don't know what's good for 'em.  :rotflmao:

The article says they'll still be playing the old classics.  My prediction is they'll start playing more stuff outside of their traditional lane, they'll lose more listeners, and they'll go back to playing what they've always played.

But what do I know?  That's right.  Absolutely nothing.  :bonk:

It's strange for me to think of 90's music as "classic" but that's where were at. 1995 was THIRTY damn years ago!! I guess classic music could be anything that's more than 20 years old.. technically speaking. While I preferred KQ's 60s/70s/80s playlist I guess the big wigs there just think it's time that they shift to 70s/80s/90s. I'm technically a millennial but I consider myself to be an "old" millennial (meaning I was born in the 80s but barely) so I grew up with 90s music and I love it - but it's REALLY hard to consider bands like Nirvana, Green Day, Pearl Jam, and Radiohead to be "classic"! Apparently Gen Z and Gen Alpha are the target audience now and I've been cast aside with the Gen Xers. You guys got a padded chair and some aspirin for me? I need to sit down. 👵🏻😅

It will be the slow death of KQRS. It's like the Electric Fetus only selling cherry flavored E-cigs now cuz the old pot heads all died off! 😵‍💫  :smoking:

To me Classic Rock is exactly that.  It started in what the late 60's but got real hot in the 70's and up.  Not all 70's or 60's music is Classic Rock neither.  There is regular music and then there is Classic Rock.  No offense but I don't consider Prince classic anything.  Irks me when the show him at the Vikes games and talk about Purple Rain.

Good point TT.  There are all kinds of Rock too.  Country Rock, Religious Rock, on and on.  They are not Classic Rock. Mayhaps even Welk Rock for some.   :rotflmao: :rotflmao: :rotflmao:

They did have a few catchy tunes, maybe a lot but I don't put them in with Classic Rock.

Boy I dunno,  ive always been a channel jumper in my machine at work, KQ would usually play some jamming tunes early mornings until that puke Barnyard would come on, then I'd switch.  But today I listened to there new line up.... heard Prince 3 times in an hour, beasty boys....WTF!  Keep it up and I'll delete the channel. If I want that stuff I'll keep 107.9 dialed up.

The cool part of Classic Rock is that it keeps following us through life.  The stations target us boomers.
