that's all you got?

keep in mind that this is a democracy.
that is why things are voted on.
if we had gotten ahold of our representatives and told them that there was no way in he!! we wanted this to pass-- had you beat your drum earlier on this matter and rallied the troops on all of the internet websites and had they all agreed with you, then you can bet your ass that this would not have flown.
instead you choose to squawk after the fact.

dont get pissy just cause NOBODY agrees with you.

substance instead of slander.

my take on this whole deal is that you had decided to take a out of state deer hunting trip this year and chose to use that as an opportunity to spout off like a do good blow hard, thinking that the rest of us would hop on your band wagon.
dont deer hunt here. who gives a crap. I don't.

maybe YOU are smoking some of that wacky weed you are accusing spinach of hittin.
that would make more sense than this whole topic has.
take a kid hunting and fishing!!

THWACK KILLS!!

Thats like saying we should all pedal bike to mille lacs and use our birch bark canoes and paddle out to nine mile from isle bay because if any gas touches our boat or truck, were supporting terrorism.

You purchased 200 bucks in tags? Who gives a crap. An all season with all the management tags is like 120 aint it? I buy that every year since I was sixteen, when I was in high school it was a lot of hard earned work for me to get that money to use my bow, shotgun, rifle and muzzelloader. But I am sure 7 bucks would not have broke my back.

You want to talk about hunters voicing there opinion and getting something done? Look at the last election, the proofs in the pudding.

You wanna go out of state to kill your deer, good for you! Have a blast its fun hunting new country, Ive killed animals in WI IA SD ND MT WY TX LA AR and OK. Its fun Ill admit it, but you know what, it still doesnt compare to the great times I have up north at deer camp, I cherish Rifle deer season like I did Opener, thats a family holiday! Thats what its about, picking your kid up at school early the friday before so he can go shovel the deer stands out with you and share the car ride up, the guy sitting next to you at the fire, or pouring you another drink or cooking back straps, or the buddy that hears your shot and walks away from the truck to see how you did and grab a leg and drag it back! Thats HUNTING IN THE PUREST FORM. Its watching that 12 year old or 21 or however old they are drop their first ever deer in there tracks or putting your hands around that mass at the base of the antler.

You realize that if you drop a deer with one shot, 95% of the hunters already paid more than your fee in that one bullet? Winchester CXP3 are 63.99, gas is 3.50, everything adds up.

You dont know who gets that deer, the way I was brought up is that you take care of what you kill. Whether you eat it or someone else does, but you do not waste that critter, and if that meal of venison provides a family with a few extra bucks to make christmas, that deer was awesome.

What it comes down to is YOU GOTTA PAY TO PLAY and if your not willing to spend 10 freaking dollars to go out and make memories that will last a lifetime. I feel really bad for you, your friends and your kids.

Your basically telling the meth heads hey, I dont want to support you, so in turn I am going to punish all of my friends and family by not hunting this year.

Lets see what you say come october, I better not hear you even chime in on a MN deer hunt. I tell you what, opening night of bow season, I am gonna stick the first doe that comes in, and donate it just for you! It may go to a meth head cracked out single mom of 43 kids but it might not. Its just like releasing a 29 inch walleye, yeah someone else might catch it, they may keep it, they may release, it may get speared by an indian, but you know what, you gotta try.

So its not a question of who ISNT going to hunt its who else is gonna donate?

ok all... unless I am totally missing something here...

Funding comes from a $5 surcharge on nonresident hunting licenses, which is expected to raise about $122,000. And for the first year, $160,000 from the state's general fund will be added to that. Also, Minnesota deer hunters will be asked when they buy their hunting license if they want to contribute $1, $3 or $5 to the program.
After the first year, the general fund money will be dropped and replaced with a $1 surcharge on bonus deer tags purchased by hunters. Those tags, which now cost $13, allow hunters to shoot additional deer in areas with high deer densities. Hunters will continue to be asked to voluntarily contribute to the program.

so unless you buy a bonus deer tag, you don't have to pay into this at all.

So I don't understand what all the whining is about.
So... if you aren't hunting, can I come out there and wack one?  I am always looking someplace new to hunt.

Thanks OJ

If some of you would realize, most of the Meth being made in Minnesota, Is produced in rural Minnesota.

Wouldnt that be all the more reason to go out and spend MORE time in the field? Hunting, fishing, scouting, walking, shed hunting? Do your part, you might find some crap out there maybe get a chance to arrest them. If your so concerned about stopping these people go out and do a slow walk through your woods with a rifle or shotgun, depending on the season. You never know where or when they will be cooking, they found them in ice houses too......

I have stayed silent while watching this thread on many different boards.
What you guys fail to see is what we live with day in and day out. How would you feel if drug addicts came and shot a cow that was worth 1000.00 or have 15 chickens just ready to be butchered stolen from your locked chicken coop value= .80 per chick plus 50.00 in feed all so the drug addicts could have it. Well it happened to me all because our church bordering our land opened up a food shelf for yes the DRUG ADDICTS. Not the elderly or the people who need it because you know why. The people that really need the assisitance are scared of the druggies and don't come. SO I believe what Chuck said. I HAVE NO TIME FOR THESE KINDS OF PEOPLE and HAVE APSOLUTLY NO SYMPATHY.

OH AND FOR THE RECORD I WAS NEVER REIMBURSED BY THE STATE FOR FEEDING THE DRUG ADDICTS!!!!!!!!!

As for Chucks point:
1.  Our family will not support donations for drug addicts. In other parts of the state this maybe different but not in our parts!
2. We don't expect everyone to not hunt just understand what we see daily.
3.Going to keep sending politians letters to make public assistance getters urine tests every 6 months.

OK...Please stop right there. You can have the wolves on this one and I see your point but, what YOU live with day in and day out??? Most of us live in the city. Ask us what we live with day in and day out. How about work and what we have to deal with there ::)

This is going no where so I will go no farther. And that last post with the % stats. I'm having trouble reading it or making sense of it. Do you have a link for that I would like to see what it is. Thanks.

Your right mayfly you live in a quaint little housing development and I don't know what you live with I just stated we live with drugs right next door and our county seat with our deputies is 55 miles away. We don't have law enforcement 10 minutes away to rush here when we need!

I love watching deer.  :detective:  I saw several out in the fields on my way home from Iowa yesterday afternoon. We saw many that were hanging out alone, and several small to medium size herds just strolling through the fields or ditches along I-35.

I can't wait for deer hunting this year. I am really looking forward to heading up to URL and hunting with my good friend Outdoors Junkie this year. ::drunks::   He has been inviting me up for several years and it finally worked out schedule-wise this year. I only know a couple of his family that we will be hunting with, so I am also looking forward to getting to know the ones I don't know already.  ::cheers::

I will have to find a nice 30.06  :gunsmilie: to hunt with up there, as I only hunt with a Remington 870 12 gauge down here during slug season. I have been told that Remington has the best 30.06's around so I will probably end up getting a Remington unless someone changes my mind while I am out looking....  ::rockon::

I think I am still missing the big picture here or something...  you don't have to pay the $1.  it only applies to the purchase of a bonus tag.  So I see a real simple solution here... if you don't want to pay the $1 because your neighbors are druggies or what ever the point was... then don't buy a bonus tag.  you can still deer hunt in the state (assuming that you are a resident) and buy a license and not have any of that money go to this food shelf program! (which for the record, I am against... I don't think they should have tacked on money to pay for it. but I am pleased with the compromised out come)

let me say it again...
YOU DON'T HAVE TO PAY THE $1!!!!
read my post further up explaining why... ::popcorn:: ::popcorn::

I think during last year's elections, it was overly obvious Bufflehead and I are polar opposites in our political standings.  With that said, I can see where he is coming from.

Some of my concerns?:

- why is the State mandating that hunters do a charitable deed?  Take away the $1 dollar 'no big deal' thing... Charity should be just that... charity.   If the State sees a need to increase funding for a venison program, it plain and simple should come from the State's coffers.  It did not need to be implemented through an additional user fee.  I know, I know it's only a buck... a cup of coffee... irrelevent.  We are already footing additional costs prior to the $1... as pointed out, the tag, the gas, any costs related to the hunt.  If the State shall mandate charity, it should come from all within the State, as all can equally benefit from said charity.  If it could not come from taxes recieved through the general fund, why not implement a $40.00 tag for any hunter to buy and shoot a 'donation' deer.  The funds of this tag are solely used to pay for processing fees.   At least we would see if people are 'all in' for such a program by the amount of tags sold.  This would be done on a voulunteer (charity) basis.  I donate to many programs on my own and through my Church.  My wife rolls her eyes as I continually stuff loose change or a dollar bill into every donation can I see.  I stop and buy hot dogs and lemonade form every sports team that sets up a street corner vending table... that is charity.  Mandating charity builds resentment and animosity and unfortunatley evenetually a loss of control on a program.  With a guaranteed  funding source, there is no set in place defined perimeters that this program needs to hit in order to recieve future funding.  What I mean is this... if a charity is 'bunk' it is eventually weeded out as people realize that little of their dollars are helping those they were intended to help.  The good ones stay around and flourish.  The govt. is hardly the clearinghouse for wise and proper ways to spend money.

- when the full implementaion of the program takes hold and the State is taking in a quarter of a million (+/-) dollars for the program, what guarantees are in place that the allocation of dollars is only being used for this program?  ie: $250,000 recieved but say only 30,000 deer are taken in at a processing cost of $40.00 each re-imbersement (cost to skin and grind) = $120,000.  Where is any possible overage going?  Lost in the general fund?  A direct donation to the food shelf?

- the flip side, what if more deer are donated vs. what the program can pay for?  What is the plan to handle the surplus deer in that situation?

These are just a few of the points I thought of reading this thread.

I will give Bufflehead this... I believe he is pasionate about this, and I can feel his frustration.  I know of no perfect system, but in todays political world, everyone is made out to be a victim and is entitled to umpteen govt. programs.  Unfortunately in the mix are those who shouldn't be entitled.  But we pay for those people in countless other taxes and fees and we never bat an eye.  I pay WAY more in to taxes than a person should, but I am not yet threatening to quit going to work to prove my point.  ;D

My point being this... Buffy, right now you're being handed a basket of lemons.  Let's make some lemon aid!  Do the same thing I'm going to do (and have done for the last 4 years).  Go ahead and buy your bonus tag, just don't give them the deer.  Process it yourself and deliver it to some needy old folk, or as I do, donate it to a needy family(s), but in return they need to help you process it.  I've done this to 7 deer over the last 4 years and it works great.  I know where my deer are going and I know I am helping someone I care about out.  The true sense of charity.  The $1 may or may not end up helping someone undeserving out, but the deer you harvest goes directly to someone you do care about.   Don't let them win.  There is still ways to change the program, be proactive with your elected officials and go about that route for change.  Remember we DO NOT live in a 'democratic' society, but rather a 'representitive' society.  The former being all members of society vote on particular issues, the latter being our elected officials do the voting for us on said issues, based on their constituents beliefs and the voices heard.  Let your's be known.

One last ditch way you can still go deer hunting in Minnesota with a clear conscience... do not buy any additional (bonus) tags ever again.  The money is not being approprated from the basic deer license, but rather the bonus tags that are issued.  If you buy your regular tag, none of that money is being used for the donation program...  I hope you consider still buying an additional tag or two and personally donating as I've done and just write off the $1 and go to bed with a good feeling that you still helped someone in need.

Take care my friend and rethink the line you drew in the sand.  Take a big step over it and show them, that you can contol you own destiny.  'Go your own' with the Bufflehead - Vickie and the Boys donation program and stay on your Reps. so they hear your voice.  I've done it many times in the past and surprisingly, because I was the only voice on a subject... they listened!

Good Luck!

Ken

BFG stated the same thing I was typing...there are ways around the $1... and as I stated the amount is irrelevent... it's the premise.

yeah the reason why they opposed it was because they run thier own donation program and now they consider this threating and inflammatory... plus with this in place now it will be a huge public relation boost for all the hunters in the state..... just my 2 cents worth

We may be against the $1 donation but we're not giving up hunting.

Here's a dumb example.  I was at a kids play last night and in one scene, they sang in rap.  I hate rap so I didn't applaud.  Do you think that made a difference?  Nope.  I sat there in my solitude not clapping and still hating rap.

So are you going to get all fired up about the druggies AAAND  not hunt?  Thats just adding insult to injury.  Why make a bad situation worse?

And lastly, like Big Fish GUy has said at least twice -- THE $1 IS AN OPTION.  So you don't support the druggies and enjoy your deer season.  The End.
