Shoot or don't shoot?

Assuming both deer at 35 yards I have no shot with the bow and i wont shot at a moving game with my bow or handgun.  
2nd deer Again to fare for my confidence level with the bow and most of all not a angle i would take anyway.  Rifle or my handgun it is a very takeable shot placing the shot just inside the right front shoulder blade. The biggest problem I see with this shot is the clean up after words as you are liable to hit the punch. I don't know hw deer act in farm country but where I hunt if you were to catch a buck like that in the open and he was locked on you, waiting for him to turn would be to late, when he turns it will most likely be full blast in a 180.

Ethere my eyes are bad.. but by lookin at the antlers its two differnt deer to me.

they both have the small tine on the left beam. yeah a 200 class deer would be unbeleivable the biggest one taken off our property i would say was pushing 180 class and that was the biggest deer ive ever seen. it takes a long time to get them that big.

your probly right i still would not shoot it.... and yes a 200 incher is a dream but one that i will make come true lol

Same Deer in both pictures. Also note that I said that I would only take the head on shot at 35yds with my rifle not with my bow. Thanks for all of the responses.

I was just wondering? How many of you would consider this a trophy Whitetail Buck in your book? would you pass on this Buck in hopes that a bigger Buck would come along? Myself, I figure that this is a low end Pope and Young Buck and if a shot presented itself I would take him.

As I see it, we have a number of decisions here.
1. Is he big enough?  My guess is 95% of hunter would say yes.  This includes me, although I did let one go last year that was simular.  I did this because I had already shot a buck with a gun and figured I may get a crack at him with a bow.
2. First deer with bow - No shot unless I get him to stop.  With gun - I be blasting.
3. Second deer with bow - gotta wait this one out.  With gun - crosshairs on center of white spot on throat and bang.

I would take that deer no question. I would prefer a bigger rack but then again who wouldn't but I would take him.

I would be counting my blessing if I had a chance to take a deer that looks like that!!  I would not even prefer a bigger rack, I would be VERY content with that deer...beyond content is more like it...wait no...frickin' ecstactic would be my feelings on that one!

in all my areas i hunt that is a decent deer and a shooter im sure not one person in all the areas i hunt that hunt out there also would pass him up. i dont shoot deer in the head, but if its a doe and its the only shot i would shoot her in the head just not a buck.

I wouldn't pass that deer up either, i just dont think its a real trophy buck, but close. Give that boy a year and he'll have more mass and be at least a 10 pointer.

Actually, i did pass on a deer about that same size last year in my stand, never saw him again. That was shotgun season, opening weekend and a nice broadside 80 yard shot. i'm kicking myself still.

I'm with Cody, I don't shoot deer in the head or neck, the margin for error is to small.

My "friends" laugh at me, cause I only take ethical, well placed shots.
(ethics, meaning my own, personal preference)

I look at it this way, why make the animal suffer?

SS was right, I do pride myself on shot placement and I pass that onto my kids.
You might give me greef for this too........But, I've heard it all!

It is a nice deer, and if the shot was there, I would take it.

No to the first shot.
No to the socond shot also. I had that exact shot this year and passed on it.  I had just climbed down from my stand for lunch when I and heard a neighbor shoot one time.  I waited a minute and was about to head for lunch when I heard a stick break. There he was 100 yards out and headed my way. He stopped at 40 yards and looked right at me looking at him through my scope. After what seemed like an hour he licked his nose a few times and started walking right at me. I thought that he was going to run me over.  He turned broadside and STOPPED less than 10 feet away.  Easiest shot I have ever taken.  The coolest part was when he was that close I could hear him breathing.

If I were awake. 1st deer, not a chance. I would miss. 2nd deer. again if I were awake.Yes /no. With my gun YES. That is a ethical shoot in my book. I have seen many guys take deer with the same shoot but the deer is facing the other way! You have too. Looking at me is a mistake at 35 yards... for a deer that is.

I believe it don as i have smelt them a few times also. Espescaily during rut.  Heck had to check the drawers to make sure it wasn't me. lol
