I am getting a lab puppy this weekend.  It is a male and he is a creamy yellow color.  Just wondering if anyone has any good names.  Most of my pets end up getting 5 names before one sticks or they never do get a name, I am bad!!      The last cats I got came from the Humane Society and thankfully had been named already hence my cats Blackie and Missy  ;D

Thanks, Jewel

Jewel... name him Ruff... When ya call him twice it'll sound like youre barking! ;D  but seriously, I have a good list somewhere I made from my last two dogs, I'll find it.  I started naming em normal run of the mill things like Duke, but started getti a bit more creative, ie:  Mojo... Drummer...  There is also a site someone told me about called Pet Names?  I googled it, and got a few good ones on my list from it... I'll look for my list....

Can't you give it a stripper name and keep with the camp Y theme?

Like Bambi, Bunny or even Knockers?

I know someone who did that -- Deeogee.   :bonk:

I like the old traditional names like Sam, Frank, Charlie...

Some folks like the old goofy/silly names Maynard, Homer, Seymour, Clarence,

Another thought would be to go along with the Camp Y theme.  He could be the Camp Y "agent."    :whistling:

I have named a couple dogs after my favorite drink at the time.  I have a Golden Retriever named Windsor.  I think I will name my next pup Captain or Morgan.   :toast:

All great names!!!  Thank you for the ideas.  When I picked him up yesterday I started calling him Whitey because he is a really light cream color.  But the other half did not like that so we have agreed on Fin for today, maybe like an Eel Pout fin  ;D  Do they even have "fins"  I don't know.

I took some pics but forgot the cord to get them onto my computer on Thrusday.  If the name changes I will let you all know.  Most of my past dogs have typically had 3+ names before one stuck!!!

Current dogs include Koira which if Finnish for dog, kindof like the deeoogee
Scarlett, she came from the Humane society with the name.

Past dog, Beauga which is Finnish for little girl and Bidry which I thought was cute.

When we picked up our lab in June, I left it up to the kids to pick a name, but I had veto power.  It was a 2 week struggle to come up with something they all agreed on but they finally picked Dakota.  I liked it, since he came from South Dakota, but I told them I would call him 'kota to get it down to 2 syllables.  My wife vetoed that for some reason and the kids decided Kody would work.

Other names they considered were:

Tank
DeeOhGee
Loki  (Norse god of mischief)
Zeus
Thor
Augie  (my first choice)
Spongebob Squarepants  (I think I would have vetoed that one)

GG I laugh everytime I read that also!!!!  Now I am sure I will get it stuck in my head darn  :spongebob:

Yep it is still Finn, decided to add another n to the end.  Now we just need to come up with a middle name

He has been so much fun so far.  A true lab as he is sooooo busy.  As you can tell from the pic I could not get him to stand still for a good pic.  He is already retrieving his stuffed duck so hopefully he will continue and be a great hunter!!!!!

OH Jewel, He is adorable!!!  He looks like SO much fun!!  My kids would LOVE to have a puppy...and I haven't given in yet.  Not that I don't want one, I had springers' my whole life.  For the past 5 years, I have been without a dog for the first time ever...I had a hard time putting our last one down...and I KNOW that I have to give in one of these days to my kids, I'm just trying to find the right time to do it.  We are so busy and gone so much....the whole puppy thing might be out of the question, we will probably have to get a 2 or 3 year old dog....although I really, really, really want a puppy!  My kids would be happy with ANY dog!  ....we do have some bunnies though  :whistling: , I know, I'm pathetic!  But I did allow them to have 5 chickens and a rooster two years ago.  (We acquired them by going to an auction up North, started drinking some white russians a little too early that day :drinking: , and ended up coming home with a pregnant bunnie, 5 chickens, and one rooster...  :party1: I know...What the h*ll were we thinking!! :bonk: And I totally had to talk my husband out of getting a goat, which wasn't easy I might add!)  Anyway, although the rooster had to go on a little "vacation" after about two weeks, my kids had a ton of fun with the chickens!!  I, on the other hand, hated every second of it!  Only because of the smell, I got a weak a*s stomach, and that just didn't work out so well for me, especially on a 90 degree day in the middle of August...No, I was done...My husband went to Canada for a week, and they all went on a little trip to a farm the day after he left.  We had them from April until August, I thought that was a pretty good effort on my part!  The kids still miss them though, they loved going and collecting the eggs each morning...I did NOT enjoy washing the eggs each morning.... gag.....gag... gag  :puke:   I just don't have the stomach for it...yes, I'm a HUGE wus!
I can't even gut my own deer, nor do I want to.

Anyway...I totally got off topic there...I tend to do that...sorry.

So now, we have to try and think of a name for Finn!  :woot:
Is Finn short for Finnegan?
....I think I like the name Finnegan Benjamin..you can shorten it and call him Finn Ben! or Finny Benny... or Fengerman or FinnyBaby-snookem-buttercup...I could go on ya know..lol, but I'll stop!  :rotflmao: I don't want to give too many of my very special names away!

GG you are the  :queen:!!!!  That is way to funny.  One area you went wrong on is you are not supposed to wash the chicken eggs.  When the hen lays them she coats them with some specail stuff that makes them last a long time.  It keeps the air out which will rot them.  By washing them you wash off the special force field  :rotflmao:

And if you don't like the smell of chickens do not get a goat!!!!!!!  I have a couple, more for therapy for my dog, that way she leaves the horses alone.  She stares at them all day long.  Anyway when I got them they were fully intact males so I had my other half hold them down while I did the deen.  I did not want to touch them because they stink soooooooooooooooo bad!!!!  Once I got it done I promptley went into the house and changed my cloths!!!!!!  That is really the only stinky animal I don't care for!!!!

OK back on track!!!  On to day 6 and his name is still Finn, no middle name as of yet, I keep calling him Fineouse and several other funnie names.  The other half has been chopping corn for weeks now so when he is finally finished maybe we can come up with a good middle name!!!!!

WHAT??  Nobody told me I wasn't suppose to wash the damn eggs!  :banghead:
Jewel, you cold of saved me about 4 months worth of gaggin' my brains out each morning!
I had no idea that I was "washing off the special force field"!  And how dare you withhold this valuable information from me!  Next time, (ha, like there is going to be one!), but just in case there is a "next time" with something like this, I am going to be sure to go to you right away!!

....and I am so so SOOOOO glad we never got the goat, I CANNOT believe that there is something in the world that smells worse than chickens!! Seriously, I don't know how that is even  possible!! And OMG, I can't believe you have to smell that EVERYDAY!  And then to top it off, you tell me that you are the one that "did the deen"!!  Holy  :censored: , you must have an IRON stomach! ....and to think I would gag whenever I use to have to change my kids diapers...  :whistling: ( Well because of this, they all got potty trained REALLY early), but wow, after reading what you wrote.....YOU WIN!  YOU WIN, HANDS DOWN!!... AND YEP, I REALLY AM A BIG SISSY! :puke: I could not even do half of that stuff, no way, no how!! I do think it's awesome that you can though!  :woot:  Don't you get even a little bit squeamish?  And if not, what the heck is your secret?  I need to start a new Dear Jewel column here...

Dear Jewel,

I have a weak a*s stomach, and I gag (and sometimes puke) at anything and everything that is even remotely disgusting.  I can handle seeing just about anything, but "smelling" things is a whole different story.  I'm pretty sure I am a lost cause, but just in case, do you have any advice?  Is there any help for me?

~gg

Used to hang out on a dairy farm for the summers (my uncles place) they do not smell all that bad. However comma pause for effect cow and chicken poo does not hold a candle to a hog farm smell!  Now that smell can get just plain NASTY!

I dated a girl in college whos parents owned a large hog farm.  I went to visit her one time over a spring break.  That was the last time I ever stopped at a hog farm.  My eyes are still burning.

I had chickens growing up at my folks place.  There is no compairing those two oders.  Hogs    :puke:
