Looks like all we have to do is chalk a couple 12 pointers or bigger up to seal the deal so there isn't any tiebreakers!

I'm scheduled for muzzle opener the 29th with a couple of days off work. I'm heading down to an area (Lanesboro) that will be pushed through second season, but hopefully will still be holding a couple good sized sneaky bucks still searching for late does, or missed breeding opportunities.

Doesn't look real good takeing anything better than a big eight or a small ten from the areas I have been hunting with my bow, but you never know. Hopefully one of you guys gets an opportunity at a big boy.

Well how do we know those deer didn't just take each other out?  The gun is right there.  I think we need to call CSI MNO.    Just think of all the episodes we could write up.     OK so I won't give up my day job.

So Hunterdown got 2 does - 100 points plus a tie breaker then I gotta switch the nubber and doe with 22Lex and Bowhunter 73   Sorry for the mixup.  Im surprised I have done worse that that yet.

There has been alot of Booners taken down here this year. Three 200 inch deer that I know of; 2 in Houston Co., and one in Olmstead. Not to mention the 27 pointer in Welch.

I wonder if QDM is at the heart of these monters growing so large? Or is it the publicity they get nowadays with all our forms of media?

Pretty quiet out in the areas I've been bowhunting. With the wind the last couple of weeks the deer are staying tight to thick brush, and close to the bedding and food areas. I've only seen 1 deer since last weekend (3 mornings of hunting) and can't wait to shoot one with a muzzleloader on the 30th.

I sat out tonight, and this was the first time since rifle season closed in our area that I saw deer. 2 yearlings....but still deer.

Well rifle was a bust, but I am going to move some stands around and get an afternoon hunt in today. I think things should go ok.

Im right there with you.  Im also done with my MBRB hunt.  I saw a coyote, bald eagle, hawk, lots of squirles, birds  but no deer.  What the??

I sat out last and didn't see much....

But what I did see, I found interesting............

I have been seeing a whole lot more rubs on the trees than what was there, just a few days ago.

Hunting during the week, I've only been able to go out for the night hunt. So, maybe tomorrow when I sit in the morning, hopefully I'll see more.

I had yesterday off and went in the am to sit.

I walked out to my stand at 5:30, and it sounded like a herd of cows running through the woods right next to my stand. What a bunch of crap! They must be ducking into the woods real early 'cause of all the lead being thrown at them. Normally they just saunter in there around 6:30 or so. There is plenty of food in the fields yet, so they must be spooked.

Oh well, it was better than a day at work!

 I pasted on a spike the other day and a doe was just out side bow range  . I finally moved one of my stands about 50 yds so I'm in the funnel now it should make a big difference I have learned allot about this new land this year and I think its about to pay off.

 I still have not seen any big bucks, but I know they are in there. It is just a matter of time.

There are so many does on that property that even during the rut those real big boys hardly have to move. And out in that bedroom of theirs there is no way to get them and no reason for them to go anywhere until they feel 100% safe.

What we need is a low flying stealth helicopter to fly over the golden zone of that property. I wonder if we would have any success using blinds out there?? It could be possible......

We could use blinds but we would need to cut paths into the tall twisted swamp grass
 To funnel the deer into a shooting area. The grass is so tall and hard to move in I do think they would use the trails if we made them. But it is something that would need to be done next year.


I know this sounds kind of screwy  but if you seen the land you would understand

Pretty slim pickins the last couple times I went out around my normal areas I hunt. I really think the deer have migrated to another portion of the area I hunt as there is no really good available food for them. Went out with a friend to muzzle hunt Sat. morning and didn't see much besides turkeys. He eventually wandered over by me (he was cold) and we still hunted for an hour or so. The land we were hunting is owned by a farmer and his brothers who were finishing off the last weekend of doe season. They did a huge drive and one guy shot three does, but didn't have any bucks cruise through. A deer crossed an open field if front of me, but too far+muzzleloader+moving=no shooting.

Heading down to an area just south of Whitewater on Thursday for a morning hunt, and traveling down to a friends farm on Saturday for a day hunt with muzzle.

Good luck Lex.  I'll hit my Marine on St Croix spot at least 2 more times thisi year and also head back up Nort to my buddie's cabin on the weekend of the 20th.  We noticed the travel patterns have changed up there so hopefully there will be snow on the ground to show us where they have changed to.

Yeah, I passed on the morning hunt and opted for tonight. Boy was that dumb!

Very windy, deer were bunched up and on the other side of the section from where I was hunting after I drove out of there. I was in a good spot tight to the woods where they had shelter from the wind and some food, but just wrong area. Been using a decoy lately and that sure brings 'em in to investigate it, but once they get downwind and smell the plastic they get a little jumpy!

My last two hunts were interrupted by the worst things in the woods -----trespassers. They gave me a clear shot but I held off. I wonder if I made a mistake?

 Anyhow, I will be out tonight. I just love being out with the fresh snow, fresh tracks and the woods looking so clean. It will be a good sit no matter what.

I let him walk, I'll prolly regret it, but, what the hay!

Still looking for a doe for the freezer, if I don't freeze first!

Good call letting him go he already made it thought gun season and next Oct you will get first shot at him. Then he just might make the wall

Myself, tonight I seen nothing but I will be out tomorrow night again, in a different spot. Eventually it will happen

Remember most anybody can kill a deer at 25YD but it takes a hunter with discipline to not take the shot.
