being out goose hunting in between a big marsh a decent size pond and a small pond i got to see my fair share of ducks in the morning and afternoons. piles upon piles of wood ducks, makes me excited for duck season. it was even better news for my boss to hear because he takes his nephew out for youth day and his nephew only got to shoot a shovler last year, even though he had a blast doing it he wants to get him some more shooting. anyone else seeing good duck numbers???

Lots of woodies and a few teal and mixed mallards where I hunt. Geese in the AM. Scouting makes me so damn anxious!

seen tons of ducks this morning. landing in the goose decoys left and right. had it been duck season our limits would of been filled within the first hour.  so its looking good for the youth season this year.

still shot some woodducks and teal up north by brandon last weekend but for the amount of diver ducks that are around wow, they should be around the metro in about a week with the warm up thats coming it could take longer.

The past weeks north near Squaw Lake were VERY slow this year.  Way toooooooo many calm, sunny days and not enough crappy weather.  Fall has been weird again weather wise, but we still can hunt after the deer is in the freezer.

I saw a buddy today that hunts near Albertville and he claimed he had 200 mallards come in last Sunday. This year should be awesome when the weather turns bad as the birds will be right in front of the front and we have no Ice yet.

No ducks fell from the sky today.  SO disappointed.  Tons of geese flying to and from the cut corn fields.

Where is the cold, rainy, miserable weather that I need for a good duck season?

if you find some ducks keep it to yourself or I am sure you will have half the duck hunters in MN hunting beside you next time you go out. Where is the cold weather?

Not much goin on here in central Mn,BUT I spent the last 4 days in SoDak and I'm here to tell ya the migration is on BIG time, all field hunting, the fields are flooded to almost lake size, even divers were found in flooded corn and bean fields,no way to drive to'em,you either hump it in or have a wheeler to drive back in,snowgeese were rolling in all weekend by the 1000's,dark geese were few and still north.

I think the flyway keeps pushing further west every year.  Still have time and we always have late goose season to shoot.

I'm with ya on that Red.

I think the farmers need to stop plowing over the pot holes that once filled Minnesota.

Every time after a big rain on a cut/plowed field you can see where they once were.

The DNR can't seem to control it, nor can the Government.

Maybe us hunters need to make a stand in congress to see things through about conservation.

I would love to see the Ducks and Geese as to what they were in my Grandpas stories.

I did hear my first flock of Bills fly overhead Saturday morning although. Amazing!

Well, I pulled my dek's today out of my pond....
There was a good 1/2 to 1/4 inch of ice on it, so, I guess I'm done for the year.

Hunter`

Unless you travel west you won't see birds like this, western Mn can be very productive late season if you do your homework, these birds were taken w/o a spread in a open pocket of water in standing corn, two robo ducks did the job.

Yea.....I use to travel to Nodak every year and whack my fill of ducks and geese.

But, funds being low, and the hunting buddy's that say "I'm in" and when it comes time to go, they say "I'm out" , put a major damper on my traveling west. I do miss those days!

I have to agree with Snow. Thanksgiving weekend could be killer if the forecast holds. Late season goose hunting could be excellent when all the new birds show up. The calendar migrants are here. We just need the ice push birds in the state.
Where I'm from calling, flagging and decoying are just basic skills and the kids will do a little guiding just to pay off some bills.
