Usually we have a house full so I'll do a 12 pounder on the weber and one of the same size (different label ) in the oven. The bird on the grill people dig around to find those pieces.  This year it's only going to be 6 of us, yet the Mrs picked up a 17 pounder  :scratch: . I'm thinking weber for sure with just a little added smoke and lots of under the skin seasoning and perhaps injection.  How you fellas preparing the big day feast. :Turkey:

Not sure what turkey day plans are yet. Momma doesn't let me grill turkey for Thanksgiving. Otherwise it's grilled on charcoal and injected with my top secret ingredients! We will have a turkey some time this next weekend. Things are kinda goody with the granddaughter just getting out of mayo!
It will include stuffing, wild rice spuds and usually creamed peas!

Here's Glenns fabulous turkey recipe, he wanted me to share it.  ;D


 Here is a different turkey recipe that also includes the use of popcorn as a stuffing ingredient - imagine that! When I found this recipe, I thought it was perfect for people like me, who just are not sure how to tell when the turkey is thoroughly cooked, but not dried out. Give this a try.

10-15 lb. Turkey
1 cup melted butter
1 cup stuffing
1 cup un-popped popcorn (Orville Redenbacher is good)
Salt/pepper to taste

-Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Brush turkey well with melted butter, salt, and pepper.
-Fill cavity with stuffing and popcorn. Place in baking pan making sure the neck end is toward the front of the oven, not the back.
-After about four hours, listen for the popping sounds.
-When the turkey's ass end blows the oven door open, and the bird flies across the room... it's done.

Turkey Day has been tampered with at the ranch and that's not setting well with me. Can pick your seat and your nose but can't pick your relatives! We've grilled a turkey on the Weber the last 30-some odd years as we're both shot from a long growing season. It's become a tradition to stay put and exhale for us. Long story short, the nephew, his wife & kids (wife's side) are coming from Colorado and don't want to travel with the kids, from where they'll be staying ~50 miles away. Let's see, you can haul them from all the way from Colorado but not an additional 50 miles? Got it. So instead on T Day we'll be travelling to a cramped space to "celebrate" with people who don't necessarily get along real well, derelicts who don't work while living at home and sponging off their parents, plus lots of crabby screaming brats. Getting crabbier by the minute myself just thinking about it. :tequila;

However, we'll still be doing turkey on the Weber Saturday or Sunday here. If anybody messes with me during that process it'll be at their own peril!  training-087  :swords: Lots of possibilities as I've got lots of different kinds of wood for added smoke. And will be doing the glaze thing with any number of jellies as well as secret herbs and spices to baste it with. Varies each year as to how I tweak it. As we used to say about Pfeiffer's beer in college: No two taste the same!  :happy1:

pfieffers beer!!!!!!!!! :happy1: :happy1: I remember them days! 3 cases fer 9.99, returnable bottles.

well ma is finally home from Rochester. so we kinda ram rodded a turkey day plan. my mom goesto Wisconsin so no turkey day gathering there!!!YIPPEE.

so for the kids that can make it Saturday is the day!!!! me and ma on thanksgiving day alone. might have to put something special in her coffee to get her frisky!!!!!!!

the menu will include.......the only turkey of the year baked in the oven. stuffing, real and fake cranberries, wild rice,  creamed peas, and a potatoe yet to be determined. so many choices, twiced baked, mashed, hobo potatoes, oh the decisions!!!!!! and I,m sure grasshoppers for dessert.

Call 'em and tell  'em "Yumpin' yiminy!! Da Dotch yust broke down here in this town called Cawchester, we're stuck at some dude's house that's got a cupboard full of assorted Rice-a-roni and a freezer fulla chicken and pork...we'll have to make do here".  :rotflmao: Make sure ya sneak in a pan of apple crisp and I'll take care of the rest..... ;)

Pfeiffer's beer.....I haven't seen those in over 40 years. Those and Big Mouth's......a college staple. :happy1: :happy1:

Turkey day for us is a simple turkey dinner at my daughter's in Chaska. The wife and I are making the deserts and sweet potatoes.

Why doesn't a beer company pick up big mouth bottles, they were great! I followed the Pfeiffer a few times too in the long necks.

Below is one of my prized possession. Found it in a farmer's field a couple years back. Saw part of the bottle sticking out of the ground and was surprised when I unearthed it that the bottle was intact. What was even more amazing was the bottle was still sealed and the beer was still in it. Looking at the position in the field where I found it, I can only speculate that some kid(s) years ago had been hiding their beer in a culvert and it had washed into the field. How one of the numerous field operations or freezing temperatures since that time had not damaged the bottle is beyond me. It's even one of the older style tops, one of the ones that used to cut the snot out of your fingers if you weren't careful.

You can still get "Mickeys" in a big mouth bottle, it's a malt....but, oh so good....
