Vikes have 26 players who will hit Free Agency on Monday. That's half the team.

 It says 25 here but maybe they signed 1 already.  https://vikingsterritory.com/2024/news/top_news/25-free-agents

One publication probably counted all of last years back-up quarterbacks as one.  ;)

Vikes weren't willing to go that much or that long.

Just as well trade #18 too, IMO.  Might be able to get a QB that can get it done in 2-3 years that way. :pouty:

I don't disagree with you.  I wonder what 1 year of JJ is worth to a team, since he only has 1 year til free-agency.

I'd package JJ in a deal to move up and get a franchise QB and worry about the rest later.  They just have to be right about the guy they pick.

I think the Franchise QB's will be gone 1,2,3. Those teams all need QB's. JJ is worth to much to trade any lower.

Bears getting rid of Fields
Washington needs a QB
New England getting rid of Jones.

Greenard's signing likely means that they will let Hunter walk as Greenard is younger & probably cheaper too. The Miami guy, Van Ginkel(OLB), they signed is good pass rusher, so they may be about to let Wonnum & Davenport both go as well. They signed another Houston player & ex-Gopher LB early yday too. A few hours later Hicks signed with the Browns. https://purpleptsd.com/2024/vikings/top_news/blake-cashman/

Would be great to have JJ here to help the new QB get receptions.  BUT if we got a lot for him in trade it may be something we need to consider.  Hate to see him go though.

Vikings are reportedly interested in GB's FA RB, Aaron Jones too.

29 years old, coming off a season where injury hindered his production.

Maybe he can tell us the Green Bay snap counts.   :bonk:

There appears to be a method to what Vikings general manager Kwesi Adofo-Mensah and coach Kevin O’Connell are doing at quarterback and there’s no reason to believe that either consider the 26-year-old Darnold to be the solution.

What Darnold should be is a small part of the process that will focus on the Vikings identifying their real quarterback of the future in the draft this April. There are multiple possibilities for the Vikings,

Doesn't look like they will sign Hunter. With both him and Cousins gone it frees up money to build.

This is the end of the Zimmer/Spielman ERA.  Time for new Kwesi Adofo-Mensah and Kevin O’Connell to build THEIR team for the future. Look for them to get a rookie QB in the draft. Don't know who they are focusing on. Looking to build toward 2025 season.

They could trade up or also trade down for more picks or stay where they are and take Penex from Washington.

Mayes will be long gone. McCarthy might be around but I doubt it unless they move up.

We will see.

I don't disagree, but there is something here that reminds me of Ol' Smoke n' Mirrors telling Gopher nation that his first year under contract was actually Year 0 in his rebuilding process.

But objectively, and to KA-M an KO'C's credit, they did put together an over-achieving squad in 2022 and did their best to build on that in 2023 with practically zero cap space to work with.  So in "P.J. Fleck Years", 2023 was Year 0 of the Vikings "reloading" process and 2022 was Year -1.   :rotflmao:

 McCarthy has been moving up the draft board & is expected to be gone long before we have a pick unless they move up, is what I've been reading. Penix Jr is expected to have a good chance of being on the board yet at #11. The experts are saying that both McCarthy & Penix Jr could be ready to play as rookies. But most think Mayes will need to sit at least a season, maybe more. The guy from Oregon, Bo Nix, is projected as not being ready either & could go as late as Rd 3, some are saying.

About the only thing they all agree on is that the Bears take the USC guy #1. Washington & NE are expected to take a QB too, but they don't agree on which 1. Many have Daniels going #2, so that'd leave McCarthy or Mayes for NE. Most think Arizona will take Marvin Harrison #4. A lot can happen between now & April 25th.

 Derrick Henry is a year older than Jones & the Ravens signed him to a $16 mil/2 year deal.
One of the mini themes of this free agent cycle is fan-favorite running backs landing with division rivals. It happened when Saquon Barkley agreed to sign with the Eagles on Monday and now it's Aaron Jones turning in his cheesehead for a Vikings helmet. The veteran back agreed to terms with Minnesota after he was released by the Packers on Monday after they agreed to terms with Josh Jacobs. While Jones is creeping toward 30, he is still a highly impactful back judging by his five-straight 100-yard rushing games to end last season. On a one-year, $7 million deal, this is a tremendous get for Minnesota, which struggled to run the ball in 2023. I like the Jones signing, as long as he can stay healthy. But none of our much younger guys were able to stay on the field last season either. Including the rookie, Chandler, who will turn 26 in May. We shall see.

:doah: Besides, Jones seemed like he always had 150+ yds, 5-6 catches, & a couple TDs against the Vikes.
