It's sure a good thing we didn't get a lot of snow. The wind is relentless.

I figure it blew all your snow down here. Thought I saw a wren blow by the window a little bit ago...

Got one drift to whack out of the driveway but otherwise not too bad. Wife punted on her TC trip so no hurry. Will see how ambitious I am about sticking bales out in the lot tomorrow or if I can stretch it a few more days yet. It'll be cold anyway you slice it. If I've got the tractor running, I'll probably do it. Then it's done.

No travel advised here. Snow covered roads and blowing snow.

Those witches boobs I mentioned a while back were just checked in at the Des Moines airport headed for Florida earlier today, the brass bra wasnt allowed on the plane as it could be considered a weapon, good grief, the other passengers have to look at those old wrinkled things for the entire flight, sheesh.

No Tow over ~ 90% of the state but no plows even out here. It is -10 with a 23 mph WNW wind for a -36 WC however.

Our area still green according to 511ia. Good to the border going north & about 30 miles east & west. Checked a few plow cameras & they say the same. Have seen a little traffic over on the highway already too. We will be sticking close to home again today, however.

I gotta know, too. No tow?
Last night was odd. From my dining room chair, I can see state highway 30. From about 4:30 till almost 5:40 last night, we saw no traffic. It was like both ends of the highway were blocked off.
Surely people weren't using logic and common sense and stay off the roads.
I used to be cute and adorable. Then, I had my first birthday. Been downhill ever since.

I wondered if no tow meant that if you get in trouble no tow trucks will mobilize to get you. ?????

They must've been driving around over here instead tt! Told the wife last nite if some fool hit that big drift north of our place wrong, they were on their own. No way I'd fire up the tractor to pull them out in the dark. We got ~ another 1.5" of snow but most of it wound up in ditches, groves, grasslands & windbreaks.

Straight from the DM Register: Under a tow ban, cars will not be towed unless they are in the way of snowplows or are a public safety hazard. Near as I can tell looking at 511ia, all but about 12 of Iowa's 99 counties currently have a Tow Ban in place.

Big warmup starting Monday for us, it looks like 8 straight days of low to mid-30's. Quite a bit of rain/snow showers starting about Tuesday in there too.

Should see about an inch of snow here between later on today & tonite. Three more nites of sub-zero lows and we should be out of it for a while. Next week sounds like a switch back to earlier January temps when we were in the low to mid-30's. Precip sounds lite and possibly liquid form until it freezes for here anyway. Some are ready to get out the patio furniture in February. Might wanna curb their enthusiasm just yet. Numerous times over the years, February has actually been colder than January here, including last year. Average Jan. temp in Waseca was 17.1 vs. 15.9 in Feb., thanks in large part to 2 bitter cold stretches. So far, as of this January 16th, the frost depth at the SROC in Waseca under bare soil was 11". Since there is little snow cover on the fields, it's likely to be the same. Last year, with all the snow cover, the frost depth in many fields was negligible due to the snow cover. Much of the snow melt went into the ground rather than running off. What is a little surprising has been the relative lack of ice fishing activity on area lakes with portables. The ice thickness usually follows the frost depth in the soil relatively closely. Just got a report from a local angler's son who had been fishing at an undisclosed area lake location. Ice thickness was 9". Fish were biting.

Normally ice fishing really takes off between Christmas and New Years. Since things weren't fit then I think some are just not going to get it done this year. That's ok, give the fish a break.
