The Asian beetles are here. What product are you guys using  to get rid of them and prevent them from infiltrating our home. Asking for the warden.

Tempo is the product many use around here. The active ingredient is Beta cyfluthrin, same AI as in Baythroid used for control of pests in crops. Actually just about any of the synthetic pyrethroids will work. Tempo is formulated so it won't stain the house or window frames.

Careful boober, glenn will yank your plants out! Speaking of that, I wonder how boar's tomato crop turned out? Must've been good cuz we haven't heard much out of him... :scratch:

Garden's still plugging along. Auntie Mar Mar is coming back up Sunday to pick more maters. Sounds like I'll get some applesauce from her & some salsa from her sister in return. Yummy 😋 Lots of snacking tomatoes, a straggling cuke or two & a few snap peas from the scattered early plants. OMG are they tasty! Best thing is the 2 rows of the later variety came up fairly well & are now just flowering like mad. Looking forward to more of those bad boys.

Almost forgot, when picking maters, I saw the peppers actually  might bear some peppers yet! It might take a watering or two & to dodge the frost into October a ways but I was shocked. As ratty as they looked, I'd written them off long ago... :embarrassed:

It's true.... I already pulled all my cucumber, pepper and most of my mater plants. I do still have 2 mater plants, acorn squash, radishes and carrots left. Then I'm done....

My red onions are laying down so I better pull them and put them in the garage today.  Still have tomatoes and even flowers on the plants yet so will let them go for awhile.

We picked up 2 cases of pint jars at glenn's favorite place to shop(WM) ;) :smiley: on Wednesday & my brother filled 'em with tomatoes yday. That makes 34 pints total, I believe, he's still got about 1/3-1/2 of a smaller box & the bottom 1/4 of a small pail out in the garage. Probably at least that many still out on the plants yet too.  :scratch: Not sure what he plans to do with what's left.

I have a question for some of you who make tomato juice & salsa. It's something I've wanted to get into as retirement would/should allow more time for. Just curious, have any of you ever made tomato juice or salsa with cherry & other snack-type tomatoes? As prolific as they are sometimes here I just wondered if it would be worth the effort. The photo I posted above didn't even begin to make a small dent in our supply. I just needed some in the house to eat with my sammiches for lunch.

I reckon that all depends on how you feel about tomato skins.  If you used cherry or grape tomatoes, you'd have a lot of 'em.
I was in a chili contest once - with a good entry  :happy1: - and one Mexican judge lit me up because I didn't roast the skins off my Anaheim peppers.    :pouty:

Of course, I once got a cooking lesson from another Mexican woman and asked her why she didn't take the skins off the peppers and she said that since everything was getting thrown in the blender, they'd get all chopped up anyway.  More ruffage, she said.   :rotflmao:

Roma tomatoes are easy enough to blanch and skin, but y'er right, I wouldn't want to muck with all 'dem cherry toe-maders.

Ya it's only been 55 - 60 years since I saw my Mom making tomato juice so couldn't recall what the protocol was. I knew for the canned tomatoes the skin was gone but otherwise pretty clueless. I'd suspect if one ground them up in glenn's nuclear-powered horseradish grinder 1st & then ran them through a blender, you might be able to get the skins down to a drinkable level.

I make juice every year. First ya need a juicer maker thingy. I'll post what I get tomorrow,  if I remember.  :sleazy:

Pretty simple, heat  maters up, squish them threw the juicer. Put in Kettle and some salt. Heat till boiling. Put in jars. I use pint jars.  Put buds in water that's boiling,  put rings on. I rip them upside down for a bit . Done!

Dotch... I remembered.  :rotflmao: here's what the juicer is  I have looks like.  Yea put the heated maters in there and use the wood thing to squish the tomatoes and then roll it up against the inside of that collander. The seeds and skins stick to that wood thing.

i do think they make a new and improved one nowadays.

i have 2 of them and i'd gladly give you one if you wish!!!!

Well you should! After all the nice things I mail you... :rotflmao: Seriously, hang onto it. Looks like it would work great. Not quite to that point yet. I will have to undergo the Spanish inquisition 1st & she will have to make sure any possible enjoyment I would derive from making juice would be sucked out of it 1st. 😉
