Just got back from muzzy hunting with my brother for a few days.  Great time and nice weather.  Saw 8 deer but all does.  Saw some moose tracks and these were smaller than the bull I seen during firearms.  I was sitting in a two man portable and heard some wolves howl and they were getting closer and closer to me.  Then they were like 20 feet from me but didn't see them because they were behind me behind some pines.  I don't scare easy but this time I was getting a little nervous.  They were so close I heard one kind of grunt and mash his teeth because I heard the teeth clicking.  Did this for about a minute and then they took off again.  They were chasing something because I heard them howling about 5 minutes later but at a distance.  Has anyone heard this teeth clicking before.  Maybe not because they have to be real close to hear this.  I'm normally real comfortable in the north woods but that moment kind of made me a little uncomfortable.  Went back to the truck and met up with my brother.  Made a fire and had lunch and a couple of beers.  I was back to normal then and checked that moment as a big memory.  My brother heard the wolves but now the teeth mashing.  good luck.

Cripes, RH!!  I've heard bears "pop" their teeth, or whatever ya call it, and that'll scare the bejesus outta ya.....if you heard their teeth clicking, you were WAY too close. 'Course, wouldn't have bothered me.....wolves can't perch on top of a 100' spruce tree like I would have been doin'.  :rotflmao:

Not sure what happened up north but they sure missed snow totals around here. Windy yet but based on the radar snow is done.

Morning all! Time to get up...it's 5:00 am!  Howling 40-45 mph winds and 16* here. Windchill of -1*.Ground covered in snow. We got some good rain last nite, then the temps plummeted like a rock forty degrees. Rain froze into ice on everything; even my wind gauge on the deck was frozen immobile. ( a squirt of rubbing alcohol at 4:50 am thawed it out...) Wind howled so hard, the house creaked and groaned all nite. (Or maybe it was just me) Set a new record high for December of 63* degrees yday. Last couple days it hit 60*, too...so we had an actual Indian Summer, since technically it has to be after hard freezes between/after St Martin's Day (Nov 11th) and November 20th. Now we have the word for today....Pogonip. Had some of that last nite when it started freezing.  Looks like the winds will continue today with a low of 10* tonite. Just pulled a tub of my bean 'n ham soup outta the freezerator. Should be just the ting the next day or two. Have a good day guys, and watch those roads. Slicker' n Richard Nixon down here. Sure to be some smack 'em ups this am. :coffee:

I plowed yesterday and had about 6" then.  Got a couple more after that.  Started here as rain too.  Gonna be cold all week it looks like.  Still windy here but snow is done.  I bought a ham yesterday to make some ham and bean soup too Rebs.

Morning boys. Had 8 on the way in today. We got close to a foot of snow last nice. Non of the dirt roads are plowed and the main roads are barely plowed. So we drove the Blazer in today. The wind is blowing the snow around pretty good this morning. Moved snow last night and will need to clean up some drifts tonight I imagine. Oh boy winter is back and just what the lake needed. Hardly any ice and a foot of snow on top. just awesome. have a good one boys.

mornin all, the snow missed for the most part too, can still see the grass..  but the wind!!  and that's supposed to around thru Wed. night!!  heard by 6pm yesterday over 100 accidents, no surprise there...  when I drove home last night about 530 the snow had already the damage for sticking to the road, just drive accordingly is all...  drive safe and have a good day all!!!!

Mornin guys, looks like we're the hot spot again today with 21 to start, a 20 mph wind to start. The wind is supposed to pick up a bit, 25-30 mph, & go more to the north about lunch time. Must've made 65 here yday & our precip came as a light mist in the am, then a break mid - day, & then a steadier rain as it got dark. It's 36 Degrees colder this am than it was yday at this time & most of that came as it was starting to get dark yday. The house was creaking & groaning here too last night as we must of had 30-40 mph gusts. It sounds like we're all on the same kick as we've got some beans soaking for a batch of ham & bean soup today too. Not much else happening here. Everyone the got the nasty stuff take it easy on the roads, hope you have a good 1

Actually it got to 64 here in Rochester, and it was a new, yes new, record not only for the date, and the month but for the whole of "meteorological Winter"    And now back to normal day.  Just ordered Christmas cards from costco.  Looks like a little extra time will be required.

Think I'll just stay home and walk on the treadmill while watching the rest of Pale Rider, and maybe a fishing show from youtube.

Dig out my ice grabbers while I am at it.

Morning boys. 5 above to start the day today and low and behold the wind is still blowing. Supposed to blow all day with gust up to 30. Hope it is blowing the lake open so we can start with fresh ice with no snow on it. Have not been home before dark the last 2 nights to see what it looks like out there. Maybe tonight. All I know is with as busted up as it was out the and a foot of snow the ice is going to be well insulted and slushy where the ice catches the snow. Looks like we are heading for the goose egg tonight. Not much else happening. Just another day in paradise. Have a good one!

Mornin gents, we've got 19 & windy. Might make upper 20's but with that WNW wind comin at 20-30 mph it won't feel anywhere near that warm. Another pkg in the mail yday, so see if'n we can't get that wrapped today. Maybe a couple other things in that direction today, otherwise nothin real pressing on the list. Have a good day all.

Good Morning.  Looks like 10 above right now.  I'm not fond of cold weather anymore like I used to be but I do like the fact that we will be making ice now instead of loosing it.  This week I'm planning on making some jerky, smoke some salmon for a friend, and 10 pounds of beef sticks.  Yes beef sticks, not venison.  Another year without venison but I'm not mad about it.  I had plenty of memory's this year.  My nephew got a buck [his first deer], very special.  Being with my deer camp buds [always special],  the campfire BS sessions, the doe's I did see,  the first snowshoe I have seen in 5 years [just some tracks before and he was all white], some fox,  and the wolf experience for me that was a first and rare for most.  good luck.
