Ya those Mychos look darn good.  Would make a great football snack.  Well I downgraded my cooking program for the day.  We had a ribeye last night using the hot cast iron pan method.  Did that with the last two steaks we have had.  Works pretty darn good but you want to have a good exhaust fan when you are doing it.  We just got a new one that puts our old fan to shame.  Since we had a steak last night the wife didn't want country style ribs today....   Go figure. SO it is ham and bean soup day.  Just bought an 8 lb ham with a bone in it and it will simmer for 2 or 3 hours.  I will then take it out and put lots of carrots and celery and onions in it.  When they are done will put the ham back in.  I will really load it up with ham.  Then add the beans that are already cooked in the can.   Maybe add a little liquid smoke.

All this talk of soups...... oxtail and short rib vegetable soup. First time in three years since dad passed away. Just one of those things that no matter how many times you try it just doesn't taste like Mom or dads.  Not bad for the first time.
Oxtail, short ribs, peas, carrots, corn, green beans, potatoes, cabbage, barely, tomato purée, tomato paste, beef broth, garlic, onion and celery powder, salt, pepper and sugar

Thanks, oh yeah it was 8 hours from start to finish. If the Steeler game was a 1:00 start instead of 4:30 I think the soup today would've been a package of Ramen noodles.

COUNTRY BOOYA
2 lb. cubed pork
2 lb. cubed beef
3 lb. beef short ribs
1 1/2 lb. oxtails
2 1/2 lb. soup bones, split
5 lg. onions
5 c. parsley sprigs
1/2 c. lima beans (dry)
1/2 c. split peas (dry)
1/4 c. salt
2 tbsp. pepper
1 tbsp. dried oregano, crushed
1 tbsp. paprika
1 tbsp. dried basil, crushed
1 tsp. garlic salt
1 tsp. dried savory, crushed
1 lg. head red cabbage, chopped (15 c.)
3 c. diced carrots (1 lb.)
3 c. diced celery (1 lb.)
3 c. diced rutabaga
1 c. diced green pepper
3 cans tomatoes (16 oz. each)
2 cans green beans (15 oz. each)
1 can peas (17 oz.)
1 can whole kernel corn (17 oz.)
Combine meats, bones, onion, parsley, split peas, lima beans and seasonings in a large kettle. Add water to cover; bring to boil and then reduce heat. Cover and simmer about 5 hours or until meat is tender. Remove meat from bones and cube; discard bones. Skim fat from stock. Return meat to kettle and add cabbage, carrots, rutabaga and green pepper. Simmer covered for about 1 more hour. Add undrained canned vegetables; simmer 1/2 hour more. Makes 3 1/2 gallons of hearty stew for a family or neighborhood party.

In Rochester?  Besides I go to the Episcopal church downtown and they wouldn't know a booya if they fell in a vat of it.

HD thanks for the recipe.

Been to the Highland park Booya back in the day, and Vadnais Heights more recently.   But you have to be there at dawn, almost or it is gone.   That's why I wanted a recipe.

Just ran across my old recipe for Reuben soup while digging in my old recipe box for Booyah....ice fishing buddies loved it, so here it is. It's a cinch to make, and it's great...In my opinion, anyway!  ;).

Rebs' Creamy Reuben Soup

1/2 lb good corned beef; shredded coarse
1 1/4 cups of well drained sauerkraut
3 cups of water
3 cups of half and half
1/2  to 3/4 cup of onion, chopped
1/4 cup celery, chopped
3 Tbsp. butter
1/4 cup unsifted flour
4 tsp powder beef bouillon
12 oz shredded swiss cheese (coarse shredded)
8 slices of pumpernickel or dark rye bread, cut into quarters

1. In a large saucepan, cook onion and celery into butter until tender
2. Stir in flour slowly until smooth
3. Gradually stir in water and bouillon and bring to a boil. reduce heat and simmer uncovered for 5 minutes.
4. Add corned beef, kraut, half and half, and one cup of the cheese.
5. Cook 30 minutes or until thickened, stirring frequently.
6. Ladle into oven-proof bowls, top with bread squares, and remaining cheese. Place under broiler until cheese bubbles and starts to brown. Serve immediately.

HEY DEL!!! MERRY CHRISTMAS!!! This just for you! If ya say it's not right or something, I'll  zoom over there, hook up Mr.Sparkles to yer house, and tip it over!!!!  This is from my ice fishing friend in Oconto County, Wisconsin...a self-proclaimed Booyah fanatic. He and his friends over there insist Booyah MUST have chicken in it!!! I just got this back off a PM from him...permission to use it here. So take a look see.....

Booyah

(from Harry) :

"My buddy gave me his Dad's Booyah recipe. His Dad was the equipment manager for the Packers for 30+ years! No joke! I asked his permission to pass this recipe along...."

Makes 15 gal.

10 gallons water
5 lbs. Oxtail
6# onions, diced
3# cabbage, shredded (1 head)
3 cans whole tomatoes
20# chicken pieces
2 bunches celery, chopped
5# carrots, chopped
8# potatoes, diced
2 cans peas.

Boil water, add oxtail.
Every 15 minutes, add onions, cabbage, and tomatoes
When chicken is half done, add celery and carrots.
When chicken falls off bones, add potatoes.
Add peas at the very end.
Salt & pepper to taste.
For extra flavor with a hint of smokiness, use fire roasted tomatoes. It really adds some zing to it.

Seriously, I think HD's sounds better.....sssshhhh...... ;)
